Wow if that is genuine that is extremely old.
Not necessarily old, I seen a lot of statues on ebay that looks old (with a sign like that) but exist in multiple copies.I think hey do a lot of copies of old Tibetan statues in China.

Re: Iconography identification question

I know what you mean - but if it was the wrathful mandala wouldn’t you then have the blue Dakini in the east, then blue-green, green and so forth? Though the problem with thinking that it contains the three roots of a terma cycle is that the dakini ought to be in the east for that and the guru in t...

Re: Iconography identification question

i do not know the tradition but searching for Chemchog shows a lot of blue Yum, etc. You’re right. Interesting. Previously I’d only seen Chemchok images where the consort was the same color but a lighter shade Simhamukha as Khandro, even red, isn’t going to help identify which cycle this three root...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

What would be the best (online) material to buy for correctly learning mandarava practice? You need the big sadhana book, it contains short, medium and long versions of the sadhana. You can buy it as an e-book. Mandarava Tsalung Practices, also contains a long teaching on how to do the long sadhana...

Re: Taking Apart Ngondro

I'm curious where spending time on individual parts of the ngondro being a problem came from. Thus the question. What makes you think it’s a problem? Because when I practice with a dharma brother he says: this is a problem. Group practice should be done in a traditional way, when you are alone it i...

Re: Pausing sadhanas

I'm wondering how many people when practicing alone will pause their recitation to really engender the meaning of a particular section in their mind. Is this common/recommended? I do this all time. Recently I started reciting in English and that makes it even easier to ponder the meaning of the tex...

the text describes him as red in color and youthful, hence my asking for an image.
It is "reddish white", that is his most common appearance.

Re: texts/teachings on problems of alcohol

So I know there are some texts and teachings on the problems of smoking (e.g., from Guru Rinpoche) -- I was wondering if there was anything similar about the problems of consuming alcohol? I was looking for some texts/teachings which I could use as a contemplation on this. I guess you heard the sto...

Zabtik Drolma, a mind treasure of Chogling's. Sometimes the empowerment of Green Tara and the 21 Taras from Thukdrup Barchay Kunsel is given...it's described as an "activity branch" of that terma cycle. If it was the second you mention, would that have included the 21 action mantras? That might nar...

Re: Green Tara saddhana resources

I know this is an old thread but it turned up in a google search. Does anyone know which Chokgyur Lingpa Tara sadhana is the “standard” one? I received a GT empowerment from H.E. Namkhai Nyingpo recently and it was from Chokgyur Lingpa but he didn't specify further. If there is a standard one that ...

Re: Green Tara saddhana resources

Hello, I have received a Green Tara empowerment and lung (standard Chokgyur Lingpa one). Although I have been provided with an extensive commentary by my guru, there is much I do not recall and wasn't able to write down in detail, especially regarding the visualization of the 20 taras. Could anybod...

Re: Contemplation

My question is, how big a role does contemplation take in your practice? I have discovered lately how important contemplation is after decades of putting very little emphasis on it. If you actually spend 100 hours on for example the four mind changing's it will have a big effect on your practice. T...

Lineage is not that important in general Mahayana, the obsession with lineage is a Vajrayana thing. /magnus OK. My question is about sutrayana mahayana lo jong lineages in Nyingma. * their lineages * their lineage prayers * the lineage masters * how/when they entered * the circumstances of their entering Not about dzogchen Nyingma lineages such as the seven lo jong associated with the Chetsun Nyigthig or Vim...

Re: Samantabhadra vs dualistic vision (split from James Low)

How could Samantbhadra knew innately dualistic vision (therefore liberation) in the first place? When the display of the ground appeared those that didn't recognize its nature become sentient beings, but Samantbhadra did recognize it. So he understood both confusion and liberation in one moment. /m...

The best possible answer to all such questions, including how much time you have to purify your samayas, is the one you get from your teacher. If that is impossible, one you get from his or her senior students. Otherwise you get answers from people practising in other traditions, with other (and eq...
