Re: Ema kiri

Can someone please explain to me the origins of this text published by Rangjung Yeshe in Precious songs of Awakening. "Ema Kiri kiirii" Here is a translation from the original Oddiyana language by Longchenpa to Tibetan and then to English by David Christensen. http://levekunst.com/the-song-of-the-v...

Re: What's the point of abusive gurus?

I do not think the Dharma is important because there are a few stories of outrageous behavior by Indian or Tibetan masters. I personally think western students focus on these examples too much because they are titillating and exotic. I never said you did Malcolm, I just said these stories didn't tu...

I also want to say that I really disagree with the title of this thread, I would never post in such a thread.

Re: What's the point of abusive gurus?

Is it good, is it bad, it is very difficult to say. Somehow these stories don't make people loose faith in the Dharma because in that case neither you nor me would still be feeling that Dharma is the most important thing in our life as we in fact do, both of us, after all these years. I do not thin...

Re: What's the point of abusive gurus?

The notion that there is a person to destroy is pernicious and false. This is annihilationism. Malcolm, I am not saying there is a "person to destroy" I am saying that the natural state is not our ordinary state of confusion. Re: What's the point of abusive gurus?

I am pretty sure none of you think that Naropa let Tilopa abuse him to the point of death without Naropa getting some realisation, some awakening in the process. That would be very stupid on his part and I think we all know that Naropa wasn't stupid. 1) Naropa was already an advanced Vajrayāna prac...

Re: What's the point of abusive gurus?

I am a little surprised at this discussion and several others recently. Vajrayana (including Dzogchen) is not really about finding a nice teacher that can teach you nice things, right? It is about recognising the natural state, decide on that and gain full realisation in the natural self liberation...

Incidentally the late Akong Rinpoche said that CTR was in many ways a pioneer and an extraordinary teacher but that he had breached samaya long before he reached the West so that in effect he was not a guru and had no students in the traditional sense.
Can we have some details?

Which yidams can one NOT go to the essence with (G.Y.o.W.A., S.S., M., Ded.)? Generally speaking, deities that are not from Anu yoga practices. That is a really weird statement, what would stop you "going to the essence" with a non Anu yoga deity? /magnus Ok, maybe you mean "going to the essence" a...

Processing and rationalizing Shambhala's history is much more harder in the context of Vajrayana.
No, I don't think so.

CT and his successors had public support endorsements from the heads of Kagyu and Nyingma. Moreover, they abused alcohol. They couldn't even keep the precepts... what about the vows and samayas? Re: Is Monastic Ordination the Better Option for Single Dzogchen Practitioners?

Yes, some even overtly offer options. For example Fire Sword of Black Garuda offers both in-front and self-gen (for those with an HYT empowerment). Having both a front and self-visualisation is common in Mahayoga. /magnus I assume those with HYT empowerment can choose to do either? In some rather l...
