Re: Karmapa OTR free to visit Sikkim

Yes, mostly sad, but I can't stop chuckling :jumping:

I personally would want nothing to with being Karmapa or any other high Lama, how much would be expected of you! It's just hard for me to get inside the mind of someone like that... I would be so embarassed

Re: Sleep Awareness?

You can be aware of sleep and it does not necessary mean that you are resting in rigpa That's what I suspect as well. Very deep shamatha like maybe the dhyanas, which isn't rigpa but quite an accomplishment, would seem likely to involve enough stability and awareness to allow one to be aware of the...

Re: Refuge from afar with Garchen Rinpoche

Rinpoche is touring the east and Midwest over the next couple of months (not sure where you live aspiring monk). It is really worth the effort to see him in person if it's possible especially if you want to pursue BuddhaDharma in the Drikung Kagyu and are drawn toward him. He really is like the perf...

Re: Sleep Awareness?

Awareness during deep sleep is possible, the 3rd empowerment (mind/Dharmakaya) is associated with clearing the obscuration to this awareness. I think the practice of clear light from the 6 yogas of Naropa may go deeper into this. Also, I wonder if it would be possible with really strong shamatha pra...

Re: A different look at Guru Yoga

Has anybody seen this? Watch "Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche ~ The Future of Buddhism, London Talks Part One" on YouTube https://youtu.be/GC_VmA16-fs I really enjoyed it, especially the last half or so. In the Q&A he is asked whether or not he supports Mingyur Rinpoche's statement about about abuse, gur...

Nagarjuna and the chariot argument for emptiness

Does anyone know where I can find the complete description of the arguments for emptiness using the chariot? I recall hearing Nagarjuna detailing 10 or 11 fallacies in the ways we impute Svabhava onto objects like a chariot. This was my introduction to emptiness in a Buddhist class many years ago an...

Re: Could someone explain emptiness?

The chariot analogy for śūnyatā is pertinent. Does anyone know where I can find the expanded analogy for the chariot? I recall hearing Nagarjuna explaining the fallacy of 10 or 11 common ways we impute the Svabhava of chariot. I learned this in a Buddhist class at FSU many years ago and would reall...

Re: Donating one's organs at death

i was refering if death was treated different, let's say, in kriya and in ati yoga for example. i agree, depends more on the person, but i want to know if the teachings on how face death are also different in those systems. sorry my english is not the best :( Maybe there are technical differences, ...

Re: Donating one's organs at death

i see. i don't know if in vajrayana, in general, death is treated in the same way as in atiyoga, do you know if so? I would think death is considered very similarly in both Sarma and Nyingma. They are both Vajrayana and are more similar than different. I remember Gyalpo Rinpoche saying that sometim...

Re: Donating one's organs at death

Again, my point is that if we can't even go to sleep and recognize, then at death the chance should be more like turn to panic.. But yes, an authority might be better to clear this, i'm also very interested to know :)! Something Drupon Thinley Ningpo Rinpoche told me from what he has seen... if a p...

Re: A different look at Guru Yoga

I like what I heave read from Ringu Tulku a lot. There is a difference between someone advocating real devotion and connection to the Outer Guru, and someone advocating for devotion to the Outer Guru as basically an obligatory institutional thing, whatever else they want to claim it is. Once it tur...

Re: Donating one's organs at death

Got it. But i was pointing to donating organs while conciousness has not left the body. According to the bardo thodol there is a process involved, not that simple as a doctor say "is dead" and give his signature in a record. For that i was asking if there is a 3 days gap for the process to take par...

Re: Drikung monks with long hair

I've heard that sometimes the praticioners have been advised not to cut the hair after retreat until they have accomplished the practice. Not sure how reliable that is or how it is measured. But it does seem common for Drikungpas to keep their top knots for a while after retreat

Congrarulations and enjoy the journey! Ngondro is wonderful, powerful, and challenging. I personally love the five fold formulation, though I haven't seen that sadhana.

All the best,
