Re: Sex and the Lama

I took refuge too but as of last week I feel like a cross between a rudra and a mara, except wrong sex. I did once hear of a very high high lama saying such as one he would never dance with. So back to the topic. I was inundated with this lama sex issue for a couple of years... it was popping up eve...

Re: Sex and the Lama

lol maybe when they say everyone was your mother they are referring to the mother clear light? different disciplines have different meanings for the same word Bottom line is dharma is dharma. The Buddha was clear and his monks and nuns practiced austere discipline of ten virtues. He gave up the Hare...

Re: Sex and the Lama

Just read the story about the life when he got the curly hair. He was meditating on the beach in the hot sun and the snails were so moved by his compassion that they all climbed onto his head to shield him from the heat. "The religion of Buddha, of India, is well known to have been very ancient. In ...

Re: Sex and the Lama

lol I thought the same thing. Which mother are they referring too? The mother clear light? What was the context of the teaching? Words have different meanings in different disciplines do they not? The first quote in his sig is definitely not factually wrong. It may be hard to digest but based on a l...

Re: Sex and the Lama

It is not skillful in this day and age to say anything negative about homosexual. It is on the edge of hate speech. So the teaching has become inappropriate when in deters people from practicing dharma. Lhug-pa, It is getting pretty boring reading your posts on sexuality (homosexuality, masturbation...

Re: Sex and the Lama

What's the problem with ordinary sex between two consenting adults? The nature of the relationship is unequal, its about power and therefore can never be truly consensual any more than it would be between a student and a college professor. So teachers should remain alone for their entire lives? The...

Re: Sex and the Lama

It is not against law or lay precept to have sex with a student. Lying about the nature of the relationship, however, is deceitful and harmful. If the woman was not cheated by tales of spiritual benefits or promise of love, then there is simply the case of either casual sex or an emotionally balanc...

Re: Sex and the Lama

Problem is that Westerners only know bits and pieces of the story and have literally nada that is no cultural context. Start by reading Mandarva's life story. ALL OF GURU RINPOCHES CONSORTS WERE EMANATIONS OF HER PANDARA INCLUDING YESHE TSHYOGAL. Since Trisong Detsung was his emenation it is safe to...

Re: An interesting academic analysis of Diamond Way

The Buddha Sakyamuni taught the ten virtues as a foundation austerity, did he not? Vidyadharas (8th bhumi Bodhisattva) were not taught to discard them nor are those of lesser or greater realization, unless the teaching is not dharma? Show the Sutra reference if this is otherwise. Else it is not Dhar...

Re: Spontaneously Arising Moral Ethics?

Cant activity be spontaneous? Doesn't PadmeKarma tell Yeshe Tshyogal in Dakini teachings in regard to ethics and Dzogchen "down with the view and up with the conduct.' My take on that is be humble and all pervasive in the view, while he says something like sift the conduct like sand; that is be incr...

Re: Death at Tibetan Buddhist meditation retreat in Arizona

This from "Approaching the Great Perfection: Simultaneous and Gradual approaches..." seems appropriate. Because objects of knowledge are elaborated and do not manifest as substantial things. It is not possible to estimate the capability of changeable mind streams. He who discourages others, saying t...

Re: Buddhism about spirit guides

I'm not sure there is any other way besides devotion to the guru to realize the wisdom of the 'elements'. There are lots of tricks to acess the elements. Karma is the prison and buddha nature is the freedom... freedom to chose a rebith that is virtuous and beneficial.

Re: Death at Tibetan Buddhist meditation retreat in Arizona

Last bit: when I read that Sutta about the children without food and killing each other I cried for two weeks. About 20 years ago I was doing genetic engineering. Our lab partner in S. America had done a simple experiment. He put wheat, rice, corn and other food grasses and sugars into a chamber. He...

Re: Death at Tibetan Buddhist meditation retreat in Arizona

I’ve met a few Lamas and Rinpoches that don’t live in glass houses and take the practice of the Ten Virtues, Samayas and 84.000 teachings to heart, and I have met some who are honest and transparent about their downfalls. I have read that there are also Buddhas who emanate as 8th bhumi bodhisattvas ...

Re: Death at Tibetan Buddhist meditation retreat in Arizona

In the Middle Length Discourses of the Buddha, there is a reference in Sutta 50 to Mara Dusi (elsewhere in the Long Discourses referred to as craving) the evil one and a reference that his sister is Kali. The footnote for this section states that there is actually a single Mara and different beings ...
