Re: White Tara Mantra

Interesting, thanks for elaborating. Anyway - am I correct in thinking that the actual scripture that forms the basis for the 21 Tara practices (Praises to the 21 Taras) is unrestricted for purposes of reading, recitation, etc, despite being considered a tantra... whereas only the formalized visual...

Re: Situation of Kalu Rinpoche

I’m 100% prepared to say that, to the extent that the TB or any other tradition uses physical violence against children in lieu of pedagogy, that tradition is to be abandoned. If its essentials are salvageable, so be it. If its essentials rely on violence against children, then it can die in a hole...

Mostly wasted, I mean cmon. Who these days is doing anything more than receiving. But really, anglophone zen is a dead letter for now at least. Well, no. And I can see that without having been directly involved in institutional Zen for many years. What seems more true is that institutional Zen has ...

Crushing the Categories -Vaidalyaprakarana, Nagarjuna, Jan Westerhoff The Vaidalyaprakarana provides a rare glimpse of the sophisticated philosophical exchange between Buddhist and non-Buddhist schools at an early stage and will be of interest to scholars of Buddhist thought, classical Indian Philo...

Re: Dalai Lama, visiting the Netherlands, gets tough with abusers

I think it all comes back to 'use' and 'abuse' of those cultural elements. In terms of Vajrayana: As we (in the UK) have no established Buddhist culture, we must make use of the elements of practice which relate to other cultures and recognise that with Buddha, as with Jesus, we have to begin with ...

Re: White Tara Mantra

I'm interested in this idea that "front" visualizations of Tara are acceptable for people who do not have empowerments. Where is this idea coming from? It's mostly a kind of folk TB although lamas will also mention that one can practice the general sutric Buddhas and Arya Bodhisattvas. Another view...

So lets be clear.
A claim is being made that convincing allegations of sexual predation are obviated if we cite the appearance of a common meteorological phenomenon?
No, that's not the assertion.

Re: What's the difference between Guru Yoga and Yidam practice, and how do they relate to the Four Noble Truths?

I am working on completing the Dudjom Tersar Ngöndro, and also doing a Yidam practice which I received permission for. I am not sure what the difference between these practices are. It seems to me like they involve the exact same thing: directed visualization, mantra or prayer recitation, and doing...

I have also heard that completing ngöndro or doing 8 consecutive nyungne's closes the door to rebirth in lower realms. I don't have a textual source to back that up however. Also reciting 1 million (or 5 million?) Guru Rinpoche mantras assures rebirth in his pure land. I mean there's a lot of optio...

Hi Riju! Your devotion to the Louts Sutra and your compassion for beings is very admirable! Of course all the teachings of the Buddha have the single purpose of leading us from common, impure beings to become pure, enlightened beings. This is how the Buddha eliminates suffering in our world. As the ...

See if this helps. Don't worry about AP Chemistry too much. Just tackle it one main idea and problem set that goes with that idea at a time. The test is not until the end of the second semester. If your suicide statement was not excessive teen hyperbole then get professional help immediately. All of...
