TNH in hospital

"With a deep mindful breath we announce to the world the news that yesterday, the 11th of November 2014 Thay, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, experienced a severe brain hemorrhage. Thay is receiving 24 hour intensive care from specialist doctors, nurses and from his monastic disciples. At present, Thay ...

Re: Mingyur Rinpoche Goes into retreat

Mingyur Rinpoche visited Korea not long before he went into retreat; and at the end of his arduous schedule here, the last night before he left, he gave me an hour to interview him on video. It was just a generic interview intended for a broad audience, and he was tired, had to be, but he was very g...

Re: Tradition in the West

To me, Buddhism is not about Culture, though Culture tries endlessly to make it be. I think Ponlop Rinpoche hit the nail on the head: "..my various experiences have led me to see the almost blinding influence of culture in our lives and thus the importance of seeing beyond culture altogether." (Rebe...

Re: Haven't Been Meditating: Advice?

Hi Padme Just wanted to say hang in there. One suggestion: you could go through your pre meditation ritual--every day. Basically, just get into the posture you use --every day, without missing. Then when you are completely ready to meditate, get up and go about your daily business. There's something...

Re: See Nature, Become Buddha - Can You?

See Nature, Become Buddha- Can You? Simple and straightforward. This is all there is to seeing nature. By attaining it buddhahood is at hand. So here are two questions to discuss: 1. What hinders one from realising the nature of mind? 2. What stops one who has seen the nature from completing buddhah...

Re: Scholar Sheds Light on Tripitaka Koreana

Whatever the truth of this particular situation, at root this is the same issue Buddhism faces everywhere: the need of 'Culture' to subsume and sanitize a force that is against the stream. It's the same in my home country, the U.S.

Re: Practice and Faith

[i ]Is there any change in this attitude in the West in recent years? Will it ever change? Or is it important not to mention anything resembling a religion when advertising Zen (Buddhism) to Westerners?[/i] Thanks Astus and Huseng. When Westerners ask me about Zen (Seon) I do avoid Religion, mostly ...

Re: The magic of an incense stick

Thanks for this thread. I hadn't really thought about how I use the incense. It is interesting how things evolve in the course of practice. Until two years ago my wife and I did not have an altar. We had a very small apartment at that time; and I think that I probably had no interest in what I might...

Ok, thanks rt. I will add it to my 'to do' list. Among other things, I am currently reading HHDL's "Essence of the Heart Sutra," which I like quite a bit.

Re: Dedication to truth

. This seems a bit different from Buddhism which, although it does understand itself as a path that arrives at the true nature of all things, sees realising the true nature of all things as more of a necessary part of ending suffering than an aim in itself. ..., so I find myself wondering how such ...
