Re: When the Monks Met the Muslims

The problem is that we live in a political world. I have met spiritually advanced people from almost all traditions. Some traditions produce more than others. Tibetan Buddhism excels at making yogis but it's inverse is it produced a weak system of state governance. Religion is easily corrupted. Some...

Re: When the Monks Met the Muslims

For the most part it is harmless to believe Pollyanna nonsense and make false equivalencies. Sharing a few traits does not make things the same. We may simply be forced to do this because of the current trend demonizing Muslims. Particularly by Christian Taliban in America. It sucks but fascists rui...

Re: Is it bad if I, as a youngster Buddhist, go to parties and drink alcool or smoke weed?

Many peoples actions indicate they think by strict behavior alone you can reach enlightenment. They become obsessed with purity. I would rather smoke weed once a year and have a glass of wine occasionally than think myself special. The question is how are these substances effecting you and your life...

Re: When the Monks Met the Muslims

Talking about genuine spirituality in Abrahamic religions is like me talking about the amazing academic training I received in the army.

Re: When the Monks Met the Muslims

Neonazis ruin everything. I had misgivings about the Koran and the history of Islamic intolerance decades ago. It was fine to have a critical and unromanticized view of Abrahamic religions back then. Then the neonazis and fascists had to jump on board and demonize Islam. Murderous wars for natural r...

Re: Hooray for Nuclear Power

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, but I have to say, also, that your insistence on batteries is a bit puzzling. What we need is storage , and batteries are only one kind of storage, e.g. pumped hydro is good in many locations. Also, smart grid design can reduce the need for storage: over a big ...

Re: Mantra siddhi

I guess we'll have to get a newbie to do a million recitations and find out.

I'm curious about the meat mantra. Aum Abhira,...
That one must have siddhi attached to it without a visualization.

Re: Hooray for Nuclear Power

Hi Kim Solar works great on paper in Canada but I know a number of people in the alternative power community and installs seem to only last about 10 years here before they are ripped out. I wish that wasn't the case but it doesn't work like they say in the sales brochures. Output is good in winter t...

Re: Hooray for Nuclear Power

The people who advertize for nuclear power cannot count. This electricity is not cheap as soon as you add the costs for the storage of the waste. We stick it in a pool for 7-10 years and then put it over 680 metres below the surface into 450 million year old impermeable bedrock. We put it back wher...

Re: Hooray for Nuclear Power

In the meantime since there are thousands of metric tons of weapon grade HEU(highly enriched uranium) and plutonium that needs to be blended down into fuel and burned maybe we can keep the lights on in a few reactors? Fission is the road to fusion and fusion reactor fuels that produce no radioactive...

Re: Antifa at it again

I feel no qualms appearing menacing to Nazis and giving freedom from fear to oppressed minorities. It prevents predatory violence. I also clap my hands or yell at hawks trying to eat my squirrels. Pacifism is sometimes a luxury and not the most ethical choice.

Re: Marxism and Buddhism

Bakunin nailed the entire 20th century IMO with, “Freedom without socialism is privilege and injustice; socialism without freedom is slavery and brutality” I don't know anyone I would trust with power who wants anything to do with communism and some are rabid Marxists. Capitalism will kill us if we ...

Re: Antifa at it again

“The only defense against violent, evil people are good people who are more skilled at violence.” I'm not sure it's skill. It's the majority actually revealing itself to be a majority, rather than remaining indifferent....least bad option. +1, excellent summary. May I quote your post on another sit...

http://www.businessinsider.com/wall-street-journals-andy-ngo-writes-cowardly-islamic-england-2018-8 Not exactly “fake news,” but certainly biased opinion from Mr. Ngo. Re: Hooray for Nuclear Power

Exactly. The sooner we admit to ourselves that this lifestyle is not sustainable (especially at a global level), the faster we can arrive at real solutions. I think it'll never happen. So we're pretty much done barring a deus ex machina type thing and since we're not living in a fiction story it do...

Re: Antifa at it again

The only difference between far right Militas and groups like Antifa, are honestly a lack of weapons. I would be very surprised if Antifa members didn't have access to weapons. So why don't they use them? Because they're not the monsters you seem to think they are. When you demonize/attack the peop...

Re: Hooray for Nuclear Power

We were using CANDUS to burn nuke warheads. What is CANDUS? https://cna.ca/technology/energy/candu-technology/ Would it really be so bad if we burned the globes remaining nuclear weapons stockpile to run my AC and big TV in the already built reactors Greg? Canada invented nuclear power generation B...

That is because you actually have no idea what Antifa stands for. https://www.thenation.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Seth-Tobocman-Fascism-img.jpg Jesse, don't be this guy. https://pics.me.me/i-d...
