Re: China issue death sentence against Canadian

Fines and/or imprisonment and bans is more suitable punishment instead. If you read the article you will see that he initially received a 15 year jail term and that during the appeal further evidence was found regarding his involvement in the drug smuggling. You also have to consider that, okay, th...

Re: American Circumcision

I was an Army medic. Also known as a pecker checker. We have extensive training and practical experience on transmission rates and the risk factors associated with contracting STDs. You are woefully uninformed. Please educate yourself. And no, I don't consider Netflix a reliable source. https://www...

Re: American Circumcision

I assume that your belief that it is not a big deal either way leads you to accept the incorrect ideas that circumcision reduces STDs and penile cancer, and that it is not potentially physcially and psychologically damaging. As for aesthetics, ...that's not a really a great reason for an unnecessar...

It does reduce the transmission of STDs and lowers incidence of penile cancer. Some also find the procedure aesthetically pleasing. It's not really a big deal either way. Re: Tulsi Gabbard

I'm curious. With Buddhism being an anti-war religion, how can anyone calling themselves a Buddhist actively support a candidate who served in the Iraq war? The Dalai Lama tried to fight against the Chinese at first. Is he insufficiently Buddhist for you? The irony about Gabbard is her antiwar view...

Re: American Circumcision

I'm in Canada. A gomco clamp costs 12$. There is no money in it. It takes 2 minutes and some of the clamps in the birth unit are over 40 years old. It does reduce the transmission of STDs and lowers incidence of penile cancer. Some also find the procedure aesthetically pleasing. It's not really a b...

Re: American Circumcision

From a medical point of view, there is no compelling reason for circumcision. The rest of the world does just fine without it. IMO, this procedure has been co-opted by the medical profession as a money maker, in the same way it has happened with the perfectly normal process of childbirth. And to pe...

China is becoming a crap place for foreigners. Unless you are teaching English I would think long and hard on that decision. Ten years ago it was completely awesome. I wouldn't bother now. Everyone uses a VPN in China. NORD vpn is not bad. Life without half the internet sucks. No FB, Google maps, me...

Re: Text/prayer table

You could also likely contact a local woodworker, give him or her a drawing of the kind of table you want, and ask what it would cost (shouldn't be much). That way you could get something super sturdy and you'd support local business too. And if you're adventurous you could make one yourself. It's ...

Re: If the bad times are coming, what to do?

Even killing an assassin can mess you up for years. I would suggest a more realistic solution. There is nothing wrong with looking intimidating or producing great dread in those with evil intentions. The moral complexity when situations of power break down are a labyrinth of suffering. Better to avo...

While true, your logic is also a blatant case of " whaboutism ". I hate to quote the Bible but, "Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." Maybe the country that has killed 10 times as many Muslims a...

So the country that just spent 6 trillion dollars killing 500,000 Muslims since 9/11 is very upset that some human rights were violated. You certainly are the experts. Delicious. The moralizing against Myanmar has been getting on my nerves for some time. Moralizing that started with the BRI development of infrastructure, oil pipelines and ports in Myanmar.

I feel the West is past it's prime on many levels. If I didn't have commitments here I would go to new lands.

Snowden released documents on the back doors built into the Android, Apple and Windows kernel. Quite simply all electronic communications are monitored all the time. How do people keep pretending that didn't happen?

He's been America's conscience for a long time. Ha! He's almost unknown except among intellectual types. So he is unknown to the ignorant... I've heard of him. I even have the GUARDIN' GNOME achievement. Like Bookchin when he is gone there is no replacement. http://left4dead.wikia.com/wiki/Gnome_Ch...

You did save Social Security and Medicare by the barest of margins. So great suffering was temporarily averted. But that is a very low standard.
