Re: Translations of Longchenpa's Tsig Don Dzod

If it helps to know, Khenchen condenses all that material into his commentary on the Yeshe Lama. Thanks. You mean he goes through the 11 topics and so forth? Or that the gist of the Tzig Dön Dzö is covered in Khenpo Namrol's commentary on the Yeshe Lama? Yes he summarizes many of they key points in...

Re: Translations of Longchenpa's Tsig Don Dzod

Remember to buy the commentaries on Tsig Don Dzod from 2008 to 2012 from that same website, they will be an invaluable guide to improve your understanding. From scholarly or practical-experiential viewpoint? If it helps to know, Khenchen condenses all that material into his commentary on the Yeshe ...

Re: Lung vs initiation

Why then do we distinguish between initiated people and those who only have lung? Why do teachers sometimes give initiation and sometimes not, limiting themselves to lung. Just tradition? We can be initiated but it won't change anything? Hmm What is the value of initiation? To embark on the right p...

Re: What role do ritual implements play in Dzogchen?

Yes but some people also believe that somehow mahamudra would only result in a lower or lesser buddhahood. The paths are different the result is the same. Tantric mahamudra takes as the basis the 5 aggregates which are purified through the creation stage, like applying the philosopher stone to a ba...

Re: What role do ritual implements play in Dzogchen?

I am just saying what is written in the 8th vajra topic and what is written in ChNNR big Trecho book. I am saying it makes Dzogchen very clearly part of Vajrayana and Mahayana. What is it that you say? Vimalamitra cites the Heap of Jewels Tantra in topic 8 of The Great Commentary . The actual basis...

Re: What role do ritual implements play in Dzogchen?

ChNNR, Longchenpa and Vimalamitra in Buddhahood in this Life all explain the typical mantrayana practices such as dreamyoga, chudlen, tummo and so on as the path of Dzogchen. It is a point done by the great masters, not by me. By reading their texts I haven't come to the same conclusion, so since t...

Re: What role do ritual implements play in Dzogchen?

Hate to break your fantasy but the Nine vehicle doxography is not the only nyingma scheme of vehicles . According to the first two Terton kings, atiyoga is just ninth on the list of twelve vehicles, surpassing by crown pith, yang ti and the great limit. Hate to burst your bubble but these don't go ...

Re: What role do ritual implements play in Dzogchen?

While Jalu is a wonderful display of Buddhahood, its not essential nor necessary. Yogis like Jigme lingpa, longchenpa, Jamyang khyentse wangpo, etc, all realized Buddhahood in their lifetimes and didn't care much about going Jalu. Great Transference body is not just some wonderful display. It is th...

Re: Empowerment without sadhana

I just came out of an empowerment, but we did not go through or receive any sadhana. The lama only gave the initiations. It felt to me like a wang without lung or tri? If I understand correctly, he did mention a commitment to recite the mantra 7, 21, or 100 times per day with visualisation. I'm not...

For Dzogchen I'd suggest the three phrases of Garab Dorje.
For meditation instructions I've found the Royal Seal of Mahamudra to be fantastic.

My current main practice is reciting the King Tantra of the Quintessential Secret.

Then I may or may not do
Body training/ Yantras
Instantaneous deity yoga (no sadhana, just visualization and maybe mantra)
Vajra Japa

If a Dzogchen practitioner isn't inclined to put in the effort towards the two stages as a secondary practice, would śamatha be the alternative?

Re: ChNN and formal trekchö practice

I believe there's a booklet on the 4 chogshag by ChNNR.

Also Longchenpa cites the 12 vajra laughs and 7 astonishing secret words when discussing trekcho. Along with the 4 chogshag and three samadhis etc.
