Re: Tibetan Masters' advice on dealing with loneliness

I can relate to your feelings. Most of my teenage years and all of my adult life has been devoted towards learning and practicing the dharma or some form of meditation. I remember when I was 16 or 17 someone from e-sangha sent me dharma books, I'm now 30 years old lol. I've had on and off again rela...

Re: Chod Damaru vs standard Damaru

Also, I have two Chod drums. I’ll take them both to retreat in case one breaks or gets off tune. It’s never bad to have a spare... I'm so horrible with the bell and damaru  Separately I can keep a ok rhythm but soon as I try both... That’s totally normal for a beginner. If you just practice, p...

Re: Troma nagmo and rainbow body

Hmmm, who knew. And here I was thinking Dzogchen practices were their own thing and that each deity sadhana was its own thing. But definitely thanks for explaining that interesting point. I did however wonder at the fact that Troma sadhana has Dzogchen teachings imbedded into the puja text and the ...

Re: Cost of retreats USA vs. EUR

Good post, Vaktar. :thanks:

One thing I want to add is depending on which cycle of teachings one is practicing; the bonafide retreat could be as short as three weeks or even one (as is the case in some Nyingtig cycles).

Re: Empowerment needed for tummo?

One could also receive the oral instructions on tummo from Lama Garchen Rinpoche in the form of Om Ah Hum / Vajra Recitation he openly gives at almost every teaching, be it in person or webcast. At times this is conjunct with an empowerment and at other times it is just a subject he his speaking on...

Re: Empowerment needed for tummo?

In nirrutara-yoga tantra one relies on the empowerment into the mandala of a deity to practice tummo. In Lamdre there are 18 different methods of tummo but they all depend on initiation.

Re: gaze/open eyes/closed eyes

I've gotten a few different pronouncements on why one should have eyes open during contemplation, rather than closed. I notice though that some teachers and students, and well, sometimes even ChNN Rinpoche had his eyes closed at times. I am wondering if there is any true rule, or if it just a "best...

I believe with the whole indivisibility of samsara and nirvana thing it takes daily practice and integration with regular life to a different level, right?
I'm not certain it's so lineage specific, practice probably comes down to an individual's motivation and diligence.

Re: Retreats in tb

Anyways, I believe Sakyapas place strong emphasis on daily practice outside of retreat. Indeed. (Though I believe all schools in general do as well.) Retreat is essential as well though for example Ngawang Lekpa Rinpoche who did tons of retreats. Another aspect of the Sakya approach I find interest...

Thanks for posting this - this looks really interesting.

Why is HH in Vancouver that time of year? Do you know? Is he doing another tour of North America?
I know he will be giving empowerment's and instructions in New York this Summer.

Re: Retreats in tb

Another thing that is important to all retreat, sessions and practice in general is the pivotal point of reflecting on impermanence, so no matter what isolated environment one is in or not, one must train the three doors to never give into indolence or sloth and give rise to supreme bodhicitta.

Re: Chod Damaru vs standard Damaru

It’s extremely short: just 2 pages. More for personal use in a pinch . It is for fulfilling samaya when you do not have time to do the medium or long version. Are you referring to A downpour of merit and siddhi ? I never received the Dudjom Troma wang but have received the transmission for the chod...

In the Hevajra Retreat Manual based on The Nectar of Fresh Minds by Ngawang Lekdrup.
Theses are the times of the sessions of the main practice after the initial and ngondro practice have been completed:

1st session 3am-6am
2nd session 8am-12pm
3rd session 2pm-5pm
4th session 7pm-9pm

Re: malas (again)

Maybe for practitioners of Kriyayoga is more important that for a Atiyogin. I would say in general it is like that, from a more "external" to a more "internal" view. guru rinpoche is very clear about mala materials and their importance. ati doesnt negate tendrel. many commentaries likewise mention ...

Also, since these ritual implements are actually also samaya substances,,,they are not meant to be shared really. Best to get a new one, not a used one. Get your new one blessed by a lineage master, (just like its important to have statues and paintings consecrated. The Lama activates the mantra in...

Speaking about accomplishing the vajrakaya. There is also the way the ancient rigdzins vanished; such as Garab Dorje, Manjusrimitra, Sri Simha and Jnanasutra. There bodies depart into space, but through the strong devotion of their disciples prayers they reappear and bestow their final testament. Th...
