Re: Is it rare to spend time with your guru?

For me the most essential thing is receiving teachings from a siddha guru. In that way no matter how near or far, if one practices sincerely with devotion accomplishment is assured.

Re: Turning daily life into retreat

I think you have to start where you are. I can say that unlike Cone and Malcolm, I am a lazy, busy householder who practices far less than he should and reads way too much. Even so, with the right set of practices, major transformations can occur. When I first started practice, I had gone through m...

Re: Short sadhanas

There's no hard and fast rule, but in general, longer sadhanas with much elaboration apply to the main yidams of a given lineage, and are recommended for those who want to complete the practices related to that yidam in the most complete way. Shorter texts are intended for those who have completed ...

There's a Jonang temple in Atlanta, but they're mostly always closed. The last time they had these advanced initiations was in 2011.

If this guy is the real deal I’ll be at the LA initiation and attend the higher initiations a week later. Along w the completion stage instructions. Until then I will aspire and pray to Shambala Kong’s for permission to take initiation from them and read the Sadhana.
Auspicious!

Turning daily life into retreat

Of course allocating time to practice is not the same as boundaried retreat; due to constant distraction and concerns. Even so I'm interested in the possibility of accomplishing sadhana in daily life. How much time (and of course diligence, patience etc.) is needed to pull this off? Would one focus ...

Re: "You need to know Tibetan to achieve enlightenment in this life"

I certainly don't feel like I do, but are we not in better starting positions than Mila was? I think that Milarepa had a greater sense of desperation and urgency than we do, since he committed serious crimes in his current life, so the fact that he would have to do something or else face the conseq...

Solitude is useful to be free from distractions and interruptions. Even so, obstacles are our teachers and teachings. Hope for realization in retreat and fear of non realization while practicing amongst the people is not the main point. Enjoying the practice without any expectations with a mind of c...

We should have a thread about strategies for keeping practice in while struggling along in the West.
Based on the quote above, what strategies are there, what are you using, which can you recommend?
Keep the Guru on the crown, enjoy the practice without any expectations.
