Re: Best book on the Bardo Thodöl or Death in general

I just skimmed through it again. It really depends on what OP is looking for. For a more generalized pithy overview, Birth, Life, and Death by Rinpoche probably is better. Everything is in there, that is for sure. But Karma Lingpa does go into a lot more detail. Where Rinpoche simply mentions "Budd...

Re: Prajñāpāramitā and it's most influential commentaries.

Thank you. I was unaware of the Nyingma commentary. Paltrul's is mostly a slightly edited down version of Tsongkhapa's, from what I recall. I see. I'm going to study Vol.I of the Sparham translation; and if I can 'really, really' get into it will continue with all the volumes and move towards the T...

Well, there's the two-volume Kagyu commentary set which you linked one of, then there's Groundless paths which contains commentaries from the Nyingma tradition.

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I’m trying to deepen my practice by studying from a fairly high nyingma tulku in my area who eventually teaches DZ (it seems like maybe 4 years in?), but the more I learn from ChNN the harder it is to appreciate less straightforward / more ‘traditional’ teachers, no matter how well respected they a...

Re: Prajñāpāramitā and it's most influential commentaries.

Hi, I'm interested in the most influential sutras and commentaries of the Prajñāpāramitā teachings. I am leaning towards studying the Abhisamayalamkara. https://www.amazon.com/Gone-Beyond-Prajnaparamita-Realization-Commentaries/dp/1559393564/ref=pd_sim_14_6?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=1559393564&pd_rd_r...

Re: Seventeen Tantras Volume 1 & 2

I have read that the rigpa rang shar has eighty-six chapters; and is first in the list of tantras listed in the dra tal gyur.
So I'm assuming this is one of the most exhaustive given the length of the text?

Re: New Longchenpa translations from Eric Fry-Miller

I ordered some texts back in November. Haven't heard a word from them after several emails, now paypal is trying to get the money back. Just to be fair because it's upsetting when you are aspiring to read a dharma text but can't . After looking at the last couple of replies I decided there's someth...

Re: New Longchenpa translations from Eric Fry-Miller

I also attempted to purchase from the website, but it seems the whole site is now just an illusion. It was reported that my payment was processed, and I received an email to confirm that, but no actual payment was transacted. Several emails I sent appeared to be received, but no response was sent t...

Re: The straying of new sentient beings

Would it be correct to assert that Vajradhara is the sambhogakaya in the kalpa of Great Purity; and other buddhas who display awakening are nirmanakaya?

At Mt Kailash Once, I gave this advice to some fifty friends and disciples doing retreat: Life is short; the time of death uncertain; Even tonight you may die. A lot of talking is the source for evil deeds. A lot of thinking is the work of Mara. A lot of running around just weakens your practice. T...

Re: The straying of new sentient beings

If you plan on being a Bodhisattva, plan to be around for a REALLY long time. There are infinite sentient beings, that means no matter how many are liberated, there are still an infinite number waiting to be liberated. Kris's question concerns the Dzogchen doctrine that all sentient beings in this ...

Re: The straying of new sentient beings

No, once one is a buddha there's no going back. And sentient beings means all sentient beings. They are beginningless, not emergent. I might be very mistaken but I think that means there are no new sentient beings since one has either already been deluded since beginningless time or one has not and...

New beings are born every second. Did I miss the memo?
It appears that way but it's not really the case.
Sentient beings occur due to coemergent dimmed awareness / non recognition.
But can new sentient beings come into the process presently?
