Reading through the introduction now. Very insightful.
It's precious to hold such sublime scriptures.
Very grateful for Arnoud who made it possible for me to have access to it.

Re: Illuminating Quotes by Malcolm Namdrol-la

Yidams "Yi dam" means "promise," actually. Thus, if you are a Dzogchen practitioner, your promise is vidyā. If you say that you are a Dzogchen practitioner, you are essentially claiming that vidyā is your yidam. Everything else is secondary. Anytime you take an empowerment, you are making a commitme...

Re: The Retreat Map--from Kongtrul's Retreat Manual

On the schedule in the other retreat thread, the ngondro practices were given with a time frame of 45, 60 days. Are retreatants accumulating 100,000 during this time? You continue accumulating throughout the retreat, esp. prostrations. But you can accumulate a lot in 60 days, four sessions a day.Fo...

Re: The Retreat Map--from Kongtrul's Retreat Manual

Sennin, The typical first-time three-year-three-months Nyingma retreat: Ngon-dro Three Roots (Guru, Deva, Dakini) Tsa-lung Threk-chod/Thodgal Plus a number of "secondary practices," such as sang, sur, chod, and the recitation of various sutras, dharanis, and monlam done during the "breaks." Later t...

Re: The Retreat Map--from Kongtrul's Retreat Manual

I'd be interested in a 'map' of traditional Nyingma retreats, correct me if I'm wrong but don't Nyingmas have 'shorter' retreats; "6 months on this" or "80 days" etc.

Re: The Retreat Map--from Kongtrul's Retreat Manual

For Kagyupas. it's pretty much a requirement. I always thought it was a Kagyu thing, but I thought you all at least had an option for a bed. I’ve heard Nyingmapas get a bed. At least the people I’ve spoken to that did their retreat under Dudjom R had beds. Here at Lama Norlha’s (Karma Kagyu...

Is that how it's done in all four schools?
It's an option not a requirement.

Re: Three year retreat schedule

Bokar Rinpoche’s monastery has some good general info about daily schedule and annual special practices, as well, from a Kagyu POV. Kalacakra was a specialty of his; it’s not often included at other centers. The Shangpa version is interesting... of course it is! LOL  :D Any idea why there is...

Re: Three year retreat schedule

The one you posted has some "Foundation Practice" and then additional stuff--after the Pakshi Ladrup. I don't know what that is. Where did you get the schedule, Sennin? Is that from a Palpung/Situ Rinpoche site? Saw it on my Facebook. I'll pm you the link. I looked at the other versions and it's ve...

Three year retreat schedule

I came across this schedule and was curious is this typically how the initial 3 year retreat is done in Kagyu (or any other tradition)?

Re: Books that really spell out sadhana practice

Do any of the tomes mention if verbally or mentally reciting a sadhana is more effective? I've heard reasons why to do either approach but have never read anything on it. I seem to recall Light Of Wisdom, vol. II addresses this. :good: Great lead. It's in there, the 'four doors of secret mantra'.

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

There are some practices in which we use a vajra bell or other instruments, and other practices in which we do not use such instruments. What is the principle that determines whether or not it could be appropriate to integrate instruments in a given practice? A less formal way I include them is in ...
