Re: No guru, no dzogchen?

He is very wise, but after a while you forget. Once I had a self. It dropped away. Then I forgot what dropping away is. Just happy. It’s sad when those I love are unhappy because of life’s tragedies, but I hope I am here for them. It’s good to remind oneself that all is nirvana and there’s nothing t...

Re: No guru, no dzogchen?

Muni La, thank you teacher. There is no suffering only discomfort when it comes. Respects to Our Teacher HHDL. Samsara is the delusion, in reality all is Nirvana. Why do we delude ourselves. No need to realise selflessness just know that there is no Samsara. All is Nirvana. Just ask the Acorn (seed)...

Re: Non dual people

Very good. I read one of your books once before I gave up reading. It was a splendid fellow: a dark green hardback, quite elegant. Quite technical! I’ve forgotten quite a lot of things since then, but funnily enough I hadn’t forgotten your book. Thank you!

Re: Non dual people

The only way I know to relinquish the compounded is to go back to nature which is nameless and formless. What we basically are has no name whatsoever if we are to be purists. As soon as we have a name we have a compound. Therefore relinquish the I (which is 1) and relinquish the ego (which is zero)....

Re: Non dual people

It’s quite difficult for me to comment on non dual awareness because I am not sure what that is. Suffice it to say after one has practiced for a few years perhaps; happiness emerges. In happiness pain becomes evidence that you are no longer suffering. English mustard and chilli no longer burn the mo...

Re: What is the best book on the teachings and life of Bankei?

This is going to sound daft and it is a cliche, but honestly the best book on Bankei’s teachings is the living book of life itself. Just life. That won’t be helpful for everyone, but it is meant to be a pointer. Open your eyes and see, open your ears and hear, feel the Rough texture of bark or the s...

Re: An Ode to Not Meditating

People, two approaches, both are Zen. I respect letting go of the practice in order to embrace life just as it is. But I also respect the one who jumps into the river in order to swim. Both these approaches are zen. Zen embraces life with wisdom, but can also run away from the burning house. Life is...

Re: An Ode to Not Meditating

But this is just it: samsara isn’t awful, it’s great. It’s attitude that is awful. Pain is reasonable. Samsara truly is nirvana. There’s nothing to realise or attain: it’s always being like this. You are in nirvana. Pain is necessary, like the hot spice in food. We are frightened by pain, but if you...

Re: An Ode to Not Meditating

When “rest” is attained all becomes meditation. Work is a pleasure. All is at rest. Pain is spicy. Rest is not the abscence of activity. It is a state. No talk of being or non being. Meditation is no longer necessary, but becomes a pleasure and part of rest. Everything has become rest. Who rests? I ...

Thank you. It’s not always easy to be gentle to oneself and to love ourselves. I’m so sorry to hear that you all have suffered so terribly. May all be well for you and wisdom guide and cherish you.

With best wishes from Tom.

Re: Don't know how to come to terms with chronic illness that is a result of one decision I made that I regret every day

Perhaps you are right Padma. I have not had to endure cancer treatment. You have. But then again when you underwent your treatment you did have a good attitude if I read your posts correctly. Surely the time comes even in this life where suffering ceases, not pain. There is something we can do about...

Re: Don't know how to come to terms with chronic illness that is a result of one decision I made that I regret every day

Illness is caused and healed by attitude. You can give yourself a beautiful life even if you live in a cell. It’s very much in the mind. Practice makes happy. You think you are suffering and so you are suffering. Suffering is an attitude. Examine it and then change it. I know that some things are ve...

Re: The most simple approach to Buddhism

If Amitabah can convince you that Suffering is a delusion, but pain is real… what a relief. Can now enjoy life. Every time you hurt you ask: is this suffering? It hurts, yes, but is it suffering. See what you find. Suffering is the great trick. See that and there is no worry about the future. Everyt...

Re: The most simple approach to Buddhism

It takes time and practice. When you are ready you will know what to do. It’s a process that results in a sort of joy. Be patient. You know spring comes naturally. For me intention and breath and the blessings of the wise were the final stage. It’s about experience and practice more than knowledge. ...

Re: The most simple approach to Buddhism

Just die to the feeling of self. Root it out. When it’s gone you will find suffering has gone and there is the tranquility of nature. Nature is nameless, formless, wordless, conceptless and yet in all things. We have called it shunyata, Ousia, many names and yet it is nameless. Not one not zero. Jus...

Re: Dukkha as the problem

Good understanding! Dukkha is a biproduct of self. Self is bad for your teeth. There is no Dukkha, there is no self. Self is Dukkha. That’s as far as I can take it on the level of understanding. “We” are the problem. Let go of all knowledge and all understanding. Let go of all judgement (Nirvikalpa ...
