Re: texts/teachings on problems of alcohol

Thanks all, I was hoping to find something which went into detail about the results of alcohol consumption (even better if related to effects on vajrayana practice) to serve as reminders, as well as something which went over the benefits of abstention. I know it's pretty basic stuff but I thought it...

texts/teachings on problems of alcohol

So I know there are some texts and teachings on the problems of smoking (e.g., from Guru Rinpoche) -- I was wondering if there was anything similar about the problems of consuming alcohol? I was looking for some texts/teachings which I could use as a contemplation on this.

Re: Lo Jong?

Did a little googling and found this on the shambhala website: https://www.shambhala.com/lojong-mind-training/ However, there is a particular and very unique Nyingma presentation of lojong and that is Steps to the Great Perfection: The Mind-Training Tradition of the Dzogchen Masters. In this unique ...

Re: Garchen Rinpoche's affiliation

Especially for great masters I don't think affiliations are as clear or distinct as sometimes we'd like them to be. It makes sense to learn, put in to practice, and complete as many paths as you can so that you have the right tools and dharma for the right people at the right time. It seems like mos...

Re: Can bad karma from slander of the Buddha be erased through sadhana?

Buddhist literature, like most Indian literature, like most literature at all really, uses hyperbole as a regular technique. If you take it too literally (which can never have been the authors' intention) you end up with conflicting nonsense. Sure, but that being said -- if you don't work to get en...

Bardor Tulku Rinpoche, Lama Tratop and Lama Nyima from Kunzang Palchen Ling's 10 day summer retreat

I thought I'd share an auspicious photo from this year's 10 day summer Dzogchen retreat at Kunzang Palchen Ling. Bardor Tulku Rinpoche came out to do some circumambulations and this majestic double rainbow came out. Lama Tratop on the left, and Lama Nyima on the right. https://i.imgur.com/BSYtY8X.png

open heart?

So I have come across Open Heart on another Buddhist message board, and it's throwing some major warning flags to me: https://www.en.openheart.fi Does anyone have any more information on this? They're claiming some endoresments here: https://www.en.openheart.fi/35937 But it all seems very fishy to me.

Find a teacher. Cross check their pedigree to ensure that they are lineage holders. Follow their instructions. Leave your beliefs and opinions outside the door. There ya go. It’s not easy. But it is simple. Here is the OP, Note ‘It’s NOT easy.’ Note ’check that their pedigree to ensure that they ar...

A handful of lifetimes following a genuine guru putting into practice "difficult" teachings is still way easier than innumerable kalpas in samsara.

Re: Mixing Worldly and Dharma Paths

Unless you add the "emulsifier" of Bodhisatvic motivation. I think it takes more than that - doing it with some kind of actual view of emptiness. Otherwise it's very easy to stray into habitual patterns of ego and clinging. Samsara is sneaky. The "emulsifier" of Bodhisatvic motivation actually aris...

A long time ago I was at a teaching by Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche and he said mixing dharma with worldly aspirations is like mixing water with oil. No matter how hard you try to mix them they're always going to separate.

Re: Twisting & Breaking the Buddhist Precepts because Form is Emptiness and Emptiness is Form

I think the teachings are pretty clear on this, from Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche's As It Is Volume II: Guru Rinpoche also said, "Though the view should be as vast as the sky, keep your conduct as fine as barley flour." Don't confuse one with the other. When training in the view, you can be as unbiased, as...

Re: my local Karma Kagyu center is closed cult?

Well the current Karmapa is certainly non-sectarian: https://kagyuoffice.org/karmapa-in-manhattan-tibetan-community-turns-out-in-force/ That’s not the Karmapa candidate Diamond Way follows. —————————— Doesn't change the point about the 16th Karmapa. And from what I've read Thaye Dorje doesn't seem ...

Re: my local Karma Kagyu center is closed cult?

They told me that Karmapa through Ole Nydahl told them this. "if you choose the Karma-Kagyu then you are not allowed to read non-authorized books or books from different lineages because of declination of spiritual health". This is not a joke. Do you have any good sources which directly state that ...
