you guys just judge here, and you are not supposed to judge as buddhist Oh you will be surprised. We do that all the time. so one of my main motivation of getting money is to get out of here and go other country where its possible for me to practice buddhism with teacher rather than just trying to ...

Re: is doing spell is ok in Buddhism?
I honestly, don't see anything contradicting Buddhism by using herbs, oils etc..I just don't see it, and I think when Buddha said its low arts, he meant to describe what brahmin was doing, they sacrifice animals and do spells which involve spirits and harms other people like black magic I see spell...

Re: is doing spell is ok in Buddhism?
If someone performs divination or rituals for a specific purpose and they are not doing so within the context of Buddhist Refuge, but with an expectation of worldly benefit, then their karma will ripen as suffering. There is a world of difference between a Lama performing mirror divination using Yu...

Re: Recommendations for Yogacara works?
Not quite - the Trikaya predated Maitreyanath as well. For example, in the Lankavatara, the Sambhogakaya is known as the Nisyandabuddha. What I said was, " the doctrine of three kāyas which was first systematized by Maitreyanatha." This systemization was his elaboration. There is no doubt sambhogak...

Depends if you could persuade the cops that it was a religious object. Dildo Khyentse ? Tell them you are going to a Maheshvara empowerment. LOTR had a large wooden cock, which belonged to Dudjom Rinpoche, it was handed to me to give blessings with during an empowerment. Like this one? https://4.im...

In reality, the most important contributions of the Yogacara school was not the doctrine of mind-only, but rather, the doctrine of three kāyas which was first systematized by Maitreyanatha. There are many other important contributions as well, such as the eight consciousness model, Buddhist epistem...

Re: Officially being a Wiccan and pure lander
You may never have much spectacular success in Wicca. Frankly speaking, for all the effort put into it, what you get out of it is not worth a fraction of what you put into Dharma practice. Practicing Dharma guarantees a positive effect, but practicing Wicca does not. It can be, but chances are not t...

Re: Officially being a Wiccan and pure landek
You cannot achieve much mastery in Wicca as a hobby. If you do so, you can at most be not too bad at divination, but that's it. If you want to truly have some achievement in magick, you will have to do a lot of preliminary practice every day and learn all the basics. Then maybe some of your spells ...

Re: Officially being a Wiccan and pure lander
What do you really want to achieve in Wicca? Do you want to be able to perform magick, or you like the idea of being in a coven and don't really need to achieve any mastery? If the first, then you can't really do it as a hobby or part time, since it takes a lot of study and effort to develop those a...

Re: The Tantric Age: A comparison of Shaiva and Buddhist Tantra
(On the basis of the Buddha's teaching in the Lankavatara Sutra) Some schools equate the Tathagatagarbha with the Alayavijnana (which they claim is intrinsically pure) and thus the basis, or cause, of all wholesome actions. Some schools? Which schools? Can you name some for me? Not really, no. "Som...

Re: Indigenizing Dharma
Someone who is always knocking down "lesser" paths is a sign of low realization. The inability to discern a correct path from a wrong path and a higher path from a lower path is a form of ignorance. By your reasoning, it is also incorrect to state that nonBuddhist paths do not lead to any realizati...

Re: Vajrasattva questions
Thanks, Malcolm. :reading: In East Asia, this tantra is titled the Vajrasekhara Sutra. You can find it translated in BDK's Two Esoteric Sutras: http://www.bdkamerica.org/book/two-esoteric-sutras No. the Vajrasekhara Tantra (Sūtra) is a different text. From the BDK link, the Sanskrit name matches th...

Re: Vajrasattva questions
Bumping this thread as i didn't want to start another topic. I'm looking for information about the root Tantra of Vajrasattva and the origin of the 100 syllable mantra and i'm strugling to find any original texts or detailed accounts other than the root tantra's name, Dorje Gyan, or Vajra Ornament....

Re: Chomsky on Lesser Evil Voting
I tried to read the article but have comprehension challenges with dense prose. Interesting thread in any case :emb: What he is saying is that in essence, there are real world consequences in elections. If one votes only as a form of self-expression, and totally ignore the real world consequences, ...
