Re: Dharani to develop mental strength

Mahāsthāmaprāpta. In some traditions he is also considered the non-wrathful manifestation of Vajrapāṇi (though in Tibetan Buddhism Vajrapāṇi is usually considered a wrathful manifestation of Vajrasattva) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahasthamaprapta Hello Is there any Dharani’s of common Mahayana...

Re: Ozer Chenma (21 taras)

That's incredible. Thank you! Not sure if this is specific to Kagyu or Drikung Kagyu, but my last tara is not Marichi, she's listed as "Trinle Tamche Yongsu Dzogpar Jepei Drolma, She Who Completely Perfects All Enlightened Activities." She is white, radiates varicolored lights, holds a gr...

Re: Introduction to Chinese Buddhism

I’d not heard that before. But I’m not surprised. It sounds like one of the “soups” I posted about earlier. The most famous would probably be the Cundi sadhana, which was at the core of Nan Huai Chin's teachings. Very popular because it doesn't have restrictions on eating meat and the like. 2 other...

Hi Greg, I would love to have this too - please PM me. Thanks. To anyone interested in Dzogchen, I would recommend taking up yegyal on his kind offer. I haven't had a chance to look over the translation yet, but the 50 pg introduction is a highly stimulating survey of the literary history of the Dzo...

Re: Interesting excerpt from the (Hindu) Mahanirvana Tantra

There is no tantra, per se, that recommends Śakyamuni Buddha as a yidam or Bhaisajyaguru as a Yidam, but indeed, we have kriya tantra practices of these figures, which can be practiced as self-generations by those who have received HYT initiations. The procedures for this are very clearly explained...

Re: empowerment for Dudjom Tersar Ngondro

Ah. That explains the trip they made to China even within the first 49 days of his parinirvana. I don't think so. This Khenpo is actually in Taiwan. I tried to enquire about more information about his background and his teachings and I am not sure if he really is teaching ChNN's teaching...

I see. Thanks. This is interesting: Also the work on the Dra Thalgyur Tantra is proceeding. Then that would be the Longsal Vol 3 book: http://shangshung.org/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=327 No, for some reason it isn't available there, you have to go here, and also make an ...

Re: Difficulty doing Manjushri practices and prayers due to negative association

Go meet HH Sakya Trizin, Mañjuśṛī in person, and receive Mañjuśṛī practice from him. Just to clarify, do you mean the now Sakya Trichen (41st HHST) or the current 42nd HHST? Sakya Trichen, old habits die hard. Fortunately for all of us, he is still actively teaching and seems to be in good health.

Re: The Brahma Heavens vs the Bṛhatphalāḥ

Looking back into where I remembered reading this, I actually made a mistake, the Pāli dispensation has the ābhāsvarāḥ undestroyed. It is in the Aggaññasutta right at the end of the section called "Catuvaṇṇasuddhi". So that probably refers to a destruction by water. I don't have all the e...

Re: The Brahma Heavens vs the Bṛhatphalāḥ

According to the dispensation to the Pāli śrāvakāḥ, after the destruction of the kāmadhātu by the elements at the end of a kalpa, beings inhabit the Brahmāloka until they descend back into the kāmadhātu, beginning with Brahmā. According to the dispensation to the Sarvāstivāda śrāvakāḥ, the Brahma h...

I honestly, don't see anything contradicting Buddhism by using herbs, oils etc..I just don't see it, and I think when Buddha said its low arts, he meant to describe what brahmin was doing, they sacrifice animals and do spells which involve spirits and harms other people like black magic I see spell...

Re: is doing spell is ok in Buddhism?

If someone performs divination or rituals for a specific purpose and they are not doing so within the context of Buddhist Refuge, but with an expectation of worldly benefit, then their karma will ripen as suffering. There is a world of difference between a Lama performing mirror divination using Yu...

Re: Recommendations for Yogacara works?

Not quite - the Trikaya predated Maitreyanath as well. For example, in the Lankavatara, the Sambhogakaya is known as the Nisyandabuddha. What I said was, " the doctrine of three kāyas which was first systematized by Maitreyanatha." This systemization was his elaboration. There is no doubt...
