Re: empowerment for Dudjom Tersar Ngondro

Ah. That explains the trip they made to China even within the first 49 days of his parinirvana. I don't think so. This Khenpo is actually in Taiwan. I tried to enquire about more information about his background and his teachings and I am not sure if he really is teaching ChNN's teaching...

That is a different problem, one the community in the west will in time resolve. We already know that in China there is a Khenpo appointed to continue CHNN's lineage there.

Re: empowerment for Dudjom Tersar Ngondro

I see. Thanks. This is interesting: Also the work on the Dra Thalgyur Tantra is proceeding. Then that would be the Longsal Vol 3 book: http://shangshung.org/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=327 No, for some reason it isn't available there, you have to go here, and also make an acco...

Just to be clear, is it this book? http://shangshung.org/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=74_75&products_id=332 And this is very excellent. However, JD's root guru is the late ChNN. There is no reason for him to practice other termas when he can practice the fresh termas of his master fr...

Re: Shambhala closes NYC center

It appears many dharma centers in Manhattan are downsizing and facing a lot of financial difficulties. This is not good. It feels sometimes like the walls are closing in. Some folks think the growing secular mindfulness movement is eating into proper Dharma territory. I can't help but feeling that ...

Re: Shambhala closes NYC center

Not just attract moneyed folks, but outreach in general. Not everyone living in Manhattan are filthy rich. My wife had a tiny rent-stabilized studio in Chelsea which she paid something like $900/mo for. When she left to move in with me they let it out for $3K/mo. It's nuts. Yes, when I left my batt...

Re: Shambhala closes NYC center

Speaking from experience, missionary activities straight up just do not work. Imo, missionary work would be one of the quickest. Ways to hurt the dharma. No one likes a missionary. One of the things Buddhism has going for it in the West is not being pushy. Definitely. How would you like hearing on ...

Re: Shambhala closes NYC center

Frankly, it is ridiculous and obscene that any Dharma center pay $360,000 dollars a year in rent. Indeed. I know [a cult group that] has a biggish center on 24th st (between 6th and 7th, I think). I'm sure they must be paying something similar if they don't own the space. But if you want to attract...

Re: Difficulty doing Manjushri practices and prayers due to negative association

Go meet HH Sakya Trizin, Mañjuśṛī in person, and receive Mañjuśṛī practice from him. Just to clarify, do you mean the now Sakya Trichen (41st HHST) or the current 42nd HHST? Sakya Trichen, old habits die hard. Fortunately for all of us, he is still actively teaching and seems to be in good health.

Re: The Brahma Heavens vs the Bṛhatphalāḥ

Looking back into where I remembered reading this, I actually made a mistake, the Pāli dispensation has the ābhāsvarāḥ undestroyed. It is in the Aggaññasutta right at the end of the section called "Catuvaṇṇasuddhi". So that probably refers to a destruction by water. I don't have all the exact canon...

Re: The Brahma Heavens vs the Bṛhatphalāḥ

According to the dispensation to the Pāli śrāvakāḥ, after the destruction of the kāmadhātu by the elements at the end of a kalpa, beings inhabit the Brahmāloka until they descend back into the kāmadhātu, beginning with Brahmā. According to the dispensation to the Sarvāstivāda śrāvakāḥ, the Brahma h...

Re: is doing spell is ok in Buddhism?

I honestly, don't see anything contradicting Buddhism by using herbs, oils etc..I just don't see it, and I think when Buddha said its low arts, he meant to describe what brahmin was doing, they sacrifice animals and do spells which involve spirits and harms other people like black magic I see spell...

Re: is doing spell is ok in Buddhism?

If someone performs divination or rituals for a specific purpose and they are not doing so within the context of Buddhist Refuge, but with an expectation of worldly benefit, then their karma will ripen as suffering. There is a world of difference between a Lama performing mirror divination using Yu...

Re: Recommendations for Yogacara works?

Not quite - the Trikaya predated Maitreyanath as well. For example, in the Lankavatara, the Sambhogakaya is known as the Nisyandabuddha. What I said was, " the doctrine of three kāyas which was first systematized by Maitreyanatha." This systemization was his elaboration. There is no doubt sambhogak...

Depends if you could persuade the cops that it was a religious object. Dildo Khyentse ? Tell them you are going to a Maheshvara empowerment. LOTR had a large wooden cock, which belonged to Dudjom Rinpoche, it was handed to me to give blessings with during an empowerment. Like this one? https://4.im...
