Re: Bridge between Heart and Mind
After 2 pages of pure nonsense I feel obliged to offer an answer to myself. Greetings all- this is my first topic here, and I hope I'm not being overly redundant or boring... feel free to redirect me if necessary. So... the more I learn about Buddhism, and the more I put myself in the radius of the ...

Re: How can Buddhists be so sure of themselves?
The point is that you go inward in search of truth and balance, and upon discovering tastes and trails of it, you eventually find a path, which brings you higher and closer to what you seek. So historical and scientific inquiries, while in my opinion they do support the story of the Siddhartha as we...

Re: Bridge between Heart and Mind
Your first post: a broken link. Your second post: Do you really just want us to entertain you? :juggling: Your third post: using a lot of emoticons to cover up the following statements: "You suffer from wooly thinking." "You want easy answers." "You have primitive insights t...

Re: Bridge between Heart and Mind
Yes I guess I should apologize to everyone here- this is my first attempt at creating a topic and clearly some of my gaps in understanding Buddhism and interacting with a more developed community are prohibiting me from evoking the type of responses I'm looking for. I'll use this as a learning exper...

Re: Bridge between Heart and Mind
Hello friend- I appreciate you taking the time to write so much, I enjoyed reading it and will read again no doubt to further digest your many good points. I would point out, however, that you, along with others who've replied here are under the impression that I am making a lot of assumptions and c...

Re: New user from America
Thank you do_not. I get the sense that Buddhism is a diverse and wise religion and part of me joining the forum is really to learn more about it, and to grow in it, as I mature as a person. I'm sure in time I will find those on these boards who understand where I'm coming from and can display the in...

Re: Bridge between Heart and Mind
OK, so essentially what you are saying is that stillness i.e. meditation is really the thing I should be doing, and other avenues are really not going to bear fruit? By the way I am perfectly OK with meditation as a practice, but I don't think I am doing it correctly. In general I am a quiet person,...

Re: Bridge between Heart and Mind
Yeah I mean, in reality what I am asking is pretty straightforward, and there is no need to cloud the thread by saying I'm not offering enough information, or saying I just want to be entertained....... My question is not a meditation question, although types of mediation may be part of the remedy, ...

Re: Bridge between Heart and Mind
And really I have been seeking advice on this for some time, and have consulted other sources, and obviously I have heard the "just meditate - focus on (count) the breath)" line way too many times.
It's great but... let's really dive in, get some useful and engaging practices.

Re: Bridge between Heart and Mind
Do you mean to say that heart rate and meditation are linked somehow? And that you want to have a low heart beat? I don't quite understand. Or is it that you feel something is lacking in your practice and heart rate shouldn't matter? No I don't think you get it. Basically, the link I am referring t...

Re: Bridge between Heart and Mind
Hmm, why does anything have to be "happening" in order for one to "feel good"? You are right, of course, this is a difficult part of practice and not at all the way we typically think about what is going on around us. Perhaps the fact that it is difficult is tied to the fact tha...

Greetings all- this is my first topic here, and I hope I'm not being overly redundant or boring... feel free to redirect me if necessary. Re: What actually makes someone a Buddhist?
I think- this is a very good topic, as I have been very interested in Buddhism for the past 3 years, and have been reading and trying to walk the path. But- would not call myself a Buddhist yet For me, it's one of the refreshing things about the religion. Entry is not based upon a ceremony, or a wri...

New user from America
Greetings DW community- I would like to introduce myself in brief, knowing that I plan to use these forums on a regular basis to help me transition into Buddhism. Basically, I am a young adult, in the final year of college, but for pretty much my whole life I have had a spiritual inclination, a tend...
