What is the difference between conduct and setting an example?

The four means of converting beings to the Dharma are generosity (which itself as four aspects: giving material gifts, conferring fearlessness, loving kindness and teaching Dharma), pleasant speech, conduct and setting an example. What is the difference between conduct and setting an example? Thanks.

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

All that was stated was that it will take millions of human years to attain buddhahood once one is reborn there, if one is an ordinary person. I understood you very clearly. And that is what I refuse to believe because it doesn't make sense. If you have the alternative of gaining liberation in a co...

What about phowa?
That's only going to a pure land, that is not being liberated.

Not the same thing, but close enough.

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

The idea that one can be saved by another is an externalist, eternalist, theistic view. It is not compatible with the Buddha's teachings. ??? Praying to enlightened beings to lead you to a pure land while you're in the bardo is one of the standard teachings in Tibetan Buddhism. See for instance thi...

Re: Dzogchen Practitioner to Amitabha-like Buddha

One could not purify a buddhafield "better" than Amitabha's per se, but since buddhafields do not exist apart from one's own state, one ought not worry about it. Are you saying that all Buddhas have the potential to manifest as Amitabha? No, I am saying that buddhafields are not something outside y...

I don't think there is a "creating purified buddha fields for dummies" though.. :jumping:
Buddha Amitabha's vows are a template.
Talk about aeons of constant work, breathing with beings, feeling their suffering as ones own etc.
Wouldn't you still do that as a Buddha?

Re: Dzogchen Practitioner to Amitabha-like Buddha

Why not? Amitabha buddha was a human once and went through many incarnations of hardship for our sake. Nothing says it can't be accomplished. But it is VERY and i really mean very difficult in all probability and beyond. Where would such causes meet the conditions as for one to even begin a task li...

Re: When is happiness important and when does that importance cease?

I think if one's lack of happiness is an obstacle to Dharma practice then they should remedy that until they can practice Dharma being content with either happiness or suffering.

Re: Sleep Awareness?

Does anyone have any citations? We can experience the clear light all night, this mean we don't dream but do a atiyoga practice instead, but it is not easy as to push a button and make it occur. Explanations can be found in The Cycle of the Day and Night and other texts. Do any suttas or sutras say...
