Thanks. I'll try to start reading it. Why do you think that Your Memory is better?
Because it had a lot of make it stick's information. I'd still recommend reading both, but if you choose one first or if you're really tight on cash then definitely go for your memory.

Re: Practical Book Recommendations?

Buddhism of Wisdom and Faith explains much of the theory and practice from a Mainland perspective. You can read it for free and legally by following the link in my signature. The book "Going home to the Pure Land" also includes a complete practice outline for home, including recitation of the Amita...

here's a daily pure land practice (one example). notice it begins with refuge and ends with dedication of merits. you'll also notice many other similarities because it's Buddha Dharma.

Re: Practical Book Recommendations?

Our sitting practice is effectively the same. We sit and chant the Buddha's name, and we anchor it to the in and out of the breath at first. Eventually, the anchoring is no longer needed and there is only the chant. Meditating on the Buddha's name as the object of concentration can lead one into th...

Practical Book Recommendations?

The only Pure Land book I've read is this one: https://www.amazon.ca/Pure-Land-Zen-T-Tam/dp/B000K7SJGK/ref=sr_1_24?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1516103845&sr=1-24&keywords=pure+and+zen But all I got out of it was that one basically chants Namo Amitabha all day. Can someone please recommend a book that explai...

Maybe, I suppose, but I like being someone who isn't hypnotizable. With that said, boda is probably righ...

Yes. It covers the afflictions from the scope of different yanas and beings of different capacities while discussing the different outcomes for those dispositions. Can you please tell me the pages? You should read the whole thing. But in Khenpo Ngakchungs guide you can get information on the defile...

Re: Siddhis/Methods for Fixing Scoliosis

I had a yoga teacher in college who cured himself of severe scoliosis just by doing yoga. And I almost destroyed my knees doing yoga. That's the problem with anecdotal evidence: it's anecdotal. You can destroy your knees doing meditation too. But it's not entirely anecdotal....

Check out all the astral projection books.
Astral projection is not Vajrayana. Practicing to attain siddhi is not the goal in Buddhism.
Maybe if more people could read minds there would be less fake lamas....

Re: Worldly wish fulfilling mantras?

ime, the myth of romantic love is an especially pernicious delusion among westerners. dharma is about renunciation, and romantic love is about attachment. it is 100?% guaranteed that your loved one will eventually break your heart. however, if that's what you want, most tibetans would tell you to d...

Re: Siddhis/Methods for Fixing Scoliosis

Hmm... possible that we want to use these Siddhis to heal people too if we could ? Also can bodhisattvas use their siddhis/power to heal people ( spine ) ? U do still WANT some mystic power, as long as you WANT it, you WONT get it, as its a play of your ego. Can Bodhisattva heal? They are doing it ...
