Re: Meditation for Anxiety

If I had to list the one negative emotion that I really struggle with, it’s anxiety. Like everyone else I have my share of frustration, sadness, anger etc. In a way it hangs over my head daily like a spectre ready to rise up. Some days it’s just a vague little feeling at the back of my mind, a litt...

Re: Why are DharmaWheel and DhammaWheel separated?

The differences are enough that it would be an unnecessary source of conflict to be in the same sandbox. As a Mahayanist, I don't need to constantly be told I'm not Buddhist. Some of the folk over there are quite intolerant. Alright I would hate to stir up some heated discussion, especially since I...

Re: The Disapearance of Pennsylvania Dutch in America

Settled in Bucks, as well as, Berks county and then went north to Mohawk and Buffalo valleys of New York state. They were forced off of their land and then returned to central/western PA, Clearfield to be exact on the Susquehanna river. That makes sense. The irony is that many Germans from the Rhen...

Re: The Disapearance of Pennsylvania Dutch in America

I had always assumed that "Pennsylvania Dutch" was a popular mispronunciation of "Pennsylvania Deutsch," so-called because the people had moved here originally from Germany, but apparently that isn't correct. Yes, for the history of the term also see this: https://en.wikipedia.o...

Thanks for this, very interesting. My grandparents were of Irish descent, they lived and farmed in southeastern Pennsylvania (Chester County) for many years, there were some Amish nearby. Later I lived in southern Chester County, right on the Lancaster County border, and we had Amish farms all arou...

Re: The Disapearance of Pennsylvania Dutch in America

Very interesting. Thank you for posting. My family are Pennsylvania Germans from the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis region who came to the colonies in 1701. As far as I know our language was lost with my Great Grandparents on my Father's side of the family. Hi Zerwe, this is really interesting. Do you know ...

The Disapearance of Pennsylvania Dutch in America

This isn't a Buddhist language, but for those who are interested in languages, it might be interesting to hear about some of the reasons that led to the decline of the Pennsylvania Dutch dialect in the United States from a native speaker whose family has been speaking the dialect in the United State...

Even if it were possible for me to become enlightened and fully understand the doctrine of no-self, I would still suffer the effects of negative thoughts and emotions. Poison is poison. It affects the whole system. You take the analogy too far, and lose sight that its just an analogy intended to ad...
