Any idea why he held this opinion?
He probably saw the pitfalls of ever new termas.
Since when is the warm breath of the Dakinis a pitfall?

Re: The Dangers of Diluted Buddhism

Yikes...I tried to read it, but all that pointing of fingers and harumphing is just a big yawn for me. The Dharma is just fine. All that "they" and "them" stuff is so precious. Sorry, I don't have citation for that. It's just an opinion. Probably not a very good one, at that. _/|\_ Keith S...

Re: Chenrezig/Avalokita - Buddha or Bodhisattva?

Of course, a Buddha manifesting as a Bodhisattva.

He has other manifestations too, such as Hayagriva.

If you follow the Nyingma presentation, Dharmakaya Amitabha, Sambhogakaya Chenrezig, and Nirmanakaya Padmasambhava.

Re: Mipham Rinpoche's termas

Although he did not necessarily advertise it as such, some of his spontaneously arising writings were in fact Gong ter (Mind terma).

Although various other Tertons have Terma concerning King Gesar, Ju Mipham rinpoche was the main revealer of Mind terma based on King Gesar.

Chagdud rinpoche gained this ability during his first 3-year retreat. You can read about that in the book Lord of the dance.

Re: This Western Dharma experiment has been unsuccessful

[Mod note: split from Latest report on Shambala abuse just released .] This Western Dharma experiment has been unsuccessful. The reincarnation of masses of Tibetans in the West after the destruction of Tibet were ideal circumstances. They are old and Dharma was already dwindling before all these sc...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

Fair enough I hadn't seen that. I fully understand that what I will say here may be ... off-putting to some, but so be it if so - we're all presumably adults who can manage our emotions reasonably well. I do think it's interesting to contrast Thaye Dorje's statements as seen in that video with Orgy...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

Maybe a lot premature. No one has said anything about there being more than one Karmapa, though many of those rejoicing, and those wringing their hands, have assumed this meeting allows for two (or more) Karmapas. I think that's an incorrect inference. I also saw something on FB about Thaye Dorje r...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

Excellent news, we Buddhists really need to get along.

People often quote the Buddha as saying the dharma will not be destroyed from outside forces but from within.

May there be harmony among all lineages.

Since there is a new translation of the root text by Dakpo Tashi Namgyal by Elizabeth Callahan, i am wondering if anyone is aware of any teachings on mp3 or video or otherwise, using either the Traleg or Lhalungpa translations ? PS: or Clarifying the natural State or Wangchuk Dorje's root text. I c...

Not to be a stickler, but the Hindu deities were already in the building when he acquired it.

But yes, he did leave them up.

There are many Gau which are quite small and compact. Surely some of them can fit your pill without being too large?

Re: What is permanent in mahayana?

im having diffculty undestanding some mahayana concepts. according to nagarjuna nothing is permanent and everything is empty (sunyata). however some buddhist texts say that things like the dharmakaya and the dharmadatu are permanent and the dharmic laws are constant. does that change with the buddh...

To paraphrase Garrison Keillor, sometimes good fortune consists not of getting what you want but getting what you need, and having the good sense to realize that this is what you would have wanted at the outset if you had known more about yourself. ^This. To OP: If you go looking for a t...

Re: Searching for a Teacher

There are lots of very well trained teachers that are not famouse and have great capacity of guiding people in practice both in india/nepal and in the west. This is not a romantic idea, nor you have to some sort of supermagical good karma to met one. Its the same process as any other kind of teache...

The first article seems quite speculative, and neither here nor there really.

When they provide some hard facts then we can take it seriously.

However, HHDL for sure, will choose a move which will outsmart the venomous tactics of PRC.

Re: Searching for a Teacher

Hey folks, I've been looking for a Vajryana teacher for nearly two years now. Personally, I've been practicing fairly intensively for 10 years. First 3 years was in Zen. Then was in Theravada for about 5 years. A few years back, I felt drawn towards Tantra - the inclusiveness and wildness of it. I'...

Garchen Rinpoche regularly teaches Tilopa's Ganges Mahamudra .. Would deepen the connection I imagine.

Zurmang Gharwang Rinpoche is considered a rebirth of Tilopa. So perhaps the Zurmang kagyu has some related practices.
