Re: Sakya & Shangpa

Cone Tai Situ Rinpoche seems to be one of the main holders of the Shangpa Kagyu these days, and I believe was the main one who transmitted the lineage to the current Kalu Yangsi Rinpoche Do you know whether it was the the previous Kalu Rinpoche or the 16th Karmapa from whom Tai Situ Rinpoche receive...

Re: termas found outside of asia?

:good: :woohoo: Brings up a question .... what about Europe? :D I just know that HH. Chetsang Rinpoche discovered some Vajradakini cave in the USA and founded a nunnery near the place. The cave was and still is a holy grounds for native americans around there. But not sure if my info is correct, bu...

Re: Sakya & Shangpa

Are there any contemporary Sakya masters that practise Shangpa? Or is Shangpa only practised by Kagyup masters now? Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche has received the entire Shangpa Kagyu lineage from the previous Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche. Not sure whether you would label him as a "Sakya master" or no...

Re: Found bodhi mala. 94 beads?

Konchog, sorry to burst your bubble but it is nothing special. as i said it is cheap and standard nepali mala. the fact it is dirty doesn't mean it is used. the seeds comes mostly from Karve district in Nepal. i've been there, talked to locals and saw the trees. a good "bodhi seeds" mala comes with...

thank you Trime Pema). i guess your answer is generally about Dudjom Tersar ngöndro though, while i am asking about Thröma Nakmo ngöndro specifically. Well, Sangye Khandro's translation of DL's terma and one of its commentaries (both of which include the complete text of the TN medium ngondro) is f...

Re: Can beings in hell recall their past lives?

There is a hell realm where one is lured seemingly by ones lover from their (previous life), and then climbing a steep cliff unimaginable things happen to them when they try to embrace them. (The cause of being born here is harmful sexual misconduct) so it would seem from this, memories from past li...

Re: is the tathagatagarbha true? Opinions?

Buddha nature is not a 'thing' Misunderstanding Buddha-nature as a self is one of the biggest misunderstandings that can arise, and one that teachers warn of. This is the reason why in Tibetan Shedras they first extensively study the treatise's on Emptiness, and only on their very last year do they ...

Re: sang without transmission

it depends. if you want a particular TB sang practice, you should ask a TB teacher. Sang offering is an aborigen thing, a tibetan practice, and afaik it doesn't have roots in buddhadharma. Maybe you can just make aromatic smoke and offer it. Just because they haven't found any signs of smoke offeri...

Re: Buddhist Hell seems a bit much

I wouldn't say one has to believe in it to admire Buddhism, or study Buddhism, or even meditate, however if one wants to take Refuge in the three jewels, clearly the hell realms are a necessary part of Buddhist thought and practice, and spoken of in the Dharma which we take refuge in. I agree with ...

Re: Buddhist Hell seems a bit much

Belief is hell is not a core, or even a necessary component of being a Buddhist. It is not a refuge, a Noble Truth, a part of the Eightfold Path, a dharma seal, etc. Most of the past life memories recorded by UVA are memories of past human lives without reference to hell realms. False Which parts a...

I appreciate the replies. I figure this will all work out the way it will without me needing to have my projected concerns tended to. Yup. Pretty much it. I mean ... sometimes it is better to realy observe oneself than others. You will see that maybe your reason for "keeping your friend away from h...

Re: Animal Activist: Let Mosquitoes Bite You As They Are "Mothers" Trying To Feed Their Babies

Every time you eat a vegetable or piece of fruit you kill myriad sentient beings. No, not just bacteria or yeasts. The generally accepted definition of sentience is that characterises an organism which shows aversion to painful stimuli. By that criterion nematodes, which reproduce sexually rather t...
