Re: Regret and Guru Yoga-Chatral R.

Yep. You could do a lot worse in life than get hold of the full set and study them.   It would take a life and then some! Is it a text that requires empowerment? No, except for the final two sections of book 8. The Treasury was intended for students to read as they prep...

Re: Alabama judge blocks new Buddhist center in lawsuit over whether the center is religious

...in that the organization is a branch of Dhammakaya... Why would this be an issue? Somehow I don't think an Alabama judge would be influenced by this particular detail. I mean, the Dhammakaya is definitely a religious organisation, even if it is currently embroiled in a conflict with the mainstre...

Re: Alabama judge blocks new Buddhist center in lawsuit over whether the center is religious

Important case- maybe not right yet though. Really tough, too, in that the organization is a branch of Dhammakaya, There's actually a ton to think about in this. May write more later.

Re: Samaddhi for softening people's mind

Do you mean other peoples minds you have contact with? soften means to calm, to dispell cognitive obstacles, and yes, i mean other peoples minds i have contact with. LOL the answer is "yes" then. That kind of Samadhi is called "Right Samadhi" In Buddhism the term "samadhi" differs from yoga and ved...

Re: Kwan Um School of Zen

My recollection is that there was some pretty substantial influence on Korean Seon by Japanese Rinzai during the Japanese occupation of Korea in the first half of the 20th century (as part of an official policy of colonization), but that Seung Sahn's particular approach was as much influenced by the...

Re: Royal seal of mahamudra - volume two?

Doesn't exist, I wouldn't hold my breath, just from Gerardo's introduction- he seems to be saying that all the good stuff is in the one that's been translated, tho maybe one day. Possible that the remainder covers material that's already been well-covered, as opposed to the one we have which is pret...

He is CTR's son from his first marriage. 99% positive there was no marriage involved, about 70% positive she was a nun at the time. Yes, you are correct. There were no marriages in Tibet anyway and Buddhism does not have marriage rituals. He is CTR's first son from his earliest consort? Wou...

Re: Further abuses in Shambhala revealed in new statement from former Kusung

What Arupajhana describes matches what I've heard from folks who would know. I think the main thing to keep in mind when you're thinking it all through is that it has only ever been a series of ad hoc arrangements. There has never been a master plan, at least not an intelligible one. There's stuff i...

Re: Cost of retreats USA vs. EUR

If you are in the US, about half of zen and about a quarter of vipassana will give you the most bang for your buck in terms of uninterrupted practice time in reasonably supportive settings. Quite reasonable. And once the teacher shuts up you are free to practice according to your own lights.

Re: Latest report on Shambala abuse just released.

So the report they paid for is damning. When your hired legal guns turn on you that means you are one dirty snake.🐍 Damn lucky they are in Canada. That was prescient. In the US the lawsuit damages would absolutely bankrupt the entire organization. Knee-jerk cynicism aside, when you hire a firm for ...
