Re: On Faith

Similar to what I said that year or so ago. Despite how disgusting and abhorrent I find the Buddhist community, I can't seem to give the practice up. And I have recently made a commitment to doing more than the meager amount of practice I have been half assing. There is probably something I don't un...

If you don't want to do anything other than chant daimoku, than don't. Your practice is between you and Buddha.

Re: Is better recite Nammyoho renge kyo or Namu Myoho Renge Kyo?

I am guessing Nichiren spoke what google just told me is called "Late Middle Japanese". I am not sure how different pronunciation of Chinese characters in Japan was back then compared to today or if it was all that different at all. Modern English spelling actually reflects middle english pronunciat...

Re: Lenge or Renge or lrenge

i loathe flaky anything. just started this thread not to have some guy make fun of a a teacher saying erection..but to maybe set the record straight.. if you want to speak french as an english person..you have to mimic certain way of talking in order to sound french. Not making fun of anyone. Sense...

Re: Lenge or Renge or lrenge

Its an interesting thing though, I have encountered this L/R interchangeable thing in other language groups. Notably in Polynesia. I have also heard native Japanese speakers pronounce "renge" with a trill or rolled R. Not surprising, since your tongue is almost in the same place when pronouncing ei...

actually the REALLY amusing thing was that this was during the 2008 election cycle. and she was talking about "election day". To quote my Japanese professor back in college after asking her if we needed to write the exercise down on paper after speaking: "You don't need lite it down, just be fruent"

Oh for lord's sake, not everywhere is a college campus. I didn't live much on campus. These things happen a lot online, that might not be for the best. but thats the world at present. Poor young white men, they have so many disadvantages in our society, so many doors are closed to them You are crea...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

You really think that it's all SJW's, not economics, geopolitics, etc.? Does every such claim require a disclaimer to the effect of "I don't mean this 100% of the time" or "this is not the only factor"? Sure economics play a part (in fact I speculated that SJWs might be a result of capitalism). But...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

I think though, claiming they "created" him/his movement is nonsense, and takes agency away from him and his supporters, which is unfair on a number of levels. I don't buy that. I mean, there certainly is a continuing sector of the American right wing that has been with us for a long time and would...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

Trump is just using you people. Me? No. I am not a Trump supporter. These people would not be so "useful" to Trump if not for the bigoted spiteful controlling neo leftist trash who turned on young straight white men. People are sick of people told what to say and how to say it, what to watch, what ...

Or that there are already 'established populations' in the UK who have issues with consanguinity? I live here and worked in the medical profession all my life and I am unaware of them. ...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

What is becoming clear is that a lot of people who voted leave were unclear WHAT they wanted. They still got it. What they wanted. Treat democracy like a joke, and you reap what you sow (hintitty hint hint Trump "supporters"). They should either push for another referendum or STFU. Some through sim...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

So no, a vote for Jill Stein is actually a vote for Trump. Good. I would rather Trump win than Hilary. As for whoever funds them, when someone votes for a third party candidate, they are doing it because they support that candidate and not the others. Again, a vote for Jill Stein is a vote for Jill...

However, a recent poll among Brexiters after the event makes it clear that a proportion of them were unsure of the full implications of Brexit This doesn't change the fact that it was majority rule. Those people weren't Stay voters. Otherwise they would have voted. Brexit was majority rule. Democracy. Majority of those who cared to participate.
