Re: Juzu question

I just throw mine in the garbage when they're worn out. It's recommended you keep them with you at all times while you're using them, but there's no special protocol I ever heard of for disposing of them. If you practice by yourself, study hard and expect to find people to learn from sooner or late...

Juzu question

I have a set I think it time to retire. Was wondering if there is a correct or respectful way to be rid of them.

I practice alone and dont have access to a place of worship or ordained peep.

When the time is right, I will try and share it with him. :namaste:

He reminds me of myself a lot of the times but without all the coping mechanisms ive developed over the years, including practicing the Dharma.

How would you introduce the practice to a friend?

I have this friend who has all sorts of issues and is frequently miserable. Its hard enough to get him to try and do more worldly things to improve his situation. Theres also not a whole lot I can do for someone an entire country away. The best thing I could do is offer the practice. I realize the o...

Re: On Faith

Similar to what I said that year or so ago. Despite how disgusting and abhorrent I find the Buddhist community, I can't seem to give the practice up. And I have recently made a commitment to doing more than the meager amount of practice I have been half assing. There is probably something I don't un...

If you don't want to do anything other than chant daimoku, than don't. Your practice is between you and Buddha.

Re: Is better recite Nammyoho renge kyo or Namu Myoho Renge Kyo?

I am guessing Nichiren spoke what google just told me is called "Late Middle Japanese". I am not sure how different pronunciation of Chinese characters in Japan was back then compared to today or if it was all that different at all. Modern English spelling actually reflects middle english ...

Re: Lenge or Renge or lrenge

Its an interesting thing though, I have encountered this L/R interchangeable thing in other language groups. Notably in Polynesia. I have also heard native Japanese speakers pronounce "renge" with a trill or rolled R. Not surprising, since your tongue is almost in the same place when pron...

Re: Serving Sushi in a College Dining Hall is 'cultural appropriation'?

Was not sushi a cultural appropriation by the Japanese in the first place? The story I heard was that before refrigeration, the Chinese used to preserve fish in rice, and eventually started eating the rice with it. Then, the Japanese took it. Someone once told me tempura is Portuguese. And like, yo...

Re: Serving Sushi in a College Dining Hall is 'cultural appropriation'?

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Keep digging, and you will see why so many millennials have jumped on the Trump bandwagon. I saw it happen all around me, and was sort of a part of it myself until a few months ago. To be clear, yes, this sort of thing and other related things from the left is ho...

Re: Problem Solving in the Lotus Sutra

It depends on what you mean by "found". "Opening the Provisional to Reveal the Real" (開権顕実) is not literally found in the Lotus Sutra. It is, however, Zhiyi's identification of a certain teaching he developed based on his reading of the Lotus Sutra. Three Thousand Realms in a Si...
