Re: Human, you are not necessary.

Did clyde ever say that it was the same? I read him as saying we are complicit as tax payers, not that the level of culpability is the same. Obviously someone who delights in killing civilians in a war (a rogue soldier) and a tax-payer who actively protests and opposes his or her government's partic...

Re: Human, you are not necessary.

We need global action. Good luck with that, people still put nation before class. I don't know if people put nation before anything much. Look at France, once a bastion of national pride, now people are disaffected and seem to worry primarily about their hip-pocket - the haves, to stay the haves, a...

Re: Conservative Christian group launches campaign against “Buddhist meditation” in public schools

I don't even CW, I'm sorry to hear about your father and also about your family situation. Years ago I heard someone warning that Evangelical Christians would start targeting Buddhism and Buddhists. Here comes the persecution. This article makes these people sound ridiculous but that is actually ev...

Re: Human, you are not necessary.

Well, for starters the progressive identity in recent decades has become synonymous with PC, the so-called 'cultural Marxism' though the term is silly. This change has, IMO, shifted the attention from the urgent socio-economic issues to the hand-wringing and the identity crises of the urban elites. ...

Re: Human, you are not necessary.

Good mind dump and fundamentally I agree. There are of course different ways of going socialist, but ensuring the basic necessities is essential.

Re: Human, you are not necessary.

I guess the US has unique history in regards to the cult of the individual and it has its pros and cons. When I was in LA very briefly, seeing the people riding motorbikes with no helmets on and the taxi driver telling me how they had all the speed cameras removed because people were suing the city ...

Re: Human, you are not necessary.

Entertainment will get cheaper and more effective at control. Once we shift more into the virtual world, providing virtual goodies and benefits will not cost the elites anything at all.

Re: Can anyone suggest me a book regarding meditation?

Hi, I want to read about meditation. Often we get tensed up, tangled up with problems, suffer from addiction and lose our balance for life. The solution to these problems is meditation. So can you suggest me a book on meditation? Thanks in advance. Meido Roshi, a Rinzai teacher who sometimes posts ...

Re: My father died on Dec 2

Must be very rough to lose your nearest family, Crazywisdom. Warmest wishes to you in this time. May you be strong. Somebody said once that grief is love that find no outlet, no way of helping. But we can said the prayers, say the mantras, and practice for the sake of our loved ones and all sentien ...

Re: Children and the 5 Elements

I don't know why this hasn't occurred to me on my travels, but I was shown a video of kids in India attending a puja and it suddently struck me - children in the UK may not ever have been in contact with the Elements in any meaningful way, in a celebratory and joyful way. Water? Sure, they will exp...

Re: Did zen masters teach seated meditation?

At what point did your friend say that it was that every surviving Zen lineage in China, Japan and Korea, went off the rails and began doing sitting meditation and what's more, placing an inordinate emphasis on it?

Ok.. it seems we talked past each other... no aggression was intended, passive or otherwise.. also no interest in fighting here or moral high ground.. i am sorry if that's how I came across.. Re: Politics and Toxicity

Bundokji, I think Hamlet's dilemma was pretty serious and relevant for us. He saw the corruption everywhere he looked and didn't see the way out. What is one to do when every action one take is likely to only make matters worse? The problem arise when we try to have a categorical answer to apply to...

Re: Politics and Toxicity

no one can be really certain that theirs is the right view Whoa. There are plenty of views that are wrong. As Buddhists, we have a list of 64. Beyond that, we can safely judge that If a view is inflected with malice, or holds that people are inferior and therefore not entitled to fair treatment, th...

Re: Politics and Toxicity

That said, sometimes we can be just too damn tolerant. I see it in some students of mine who are good at seeing and understanding multiple perspectives. Then why speak up, why protest - it's all perfectly understandable and valid in some sense... Hello Dan74 :namaste: Understandable and valid are t...

Re: Politics and Toxicity

I'm posting this because I want a Buddhist perspective. How do you all manage it? Something inside me tells me this is an opportunity for development, and I want it to be. But how? I suppose the Buddhist perspective is based is equanimity. I sit every day for at least a half-hour, and I believe it ...
