Re: New Zen Forum invitation

I'm sorry for asking - meant no offense.

In any case, Meido has agreed to not only participate, but help steer the Forum. I hope others follow.

To have some idea :)
To understand you better. I notice you often attach these self-deprecating qualifiers to your posts and so I asked why.

TBH, I don't have much of an idea about you at all. So I ask. It was an honest question.

New Zen Forum invitation

Hello all Zen people and those interested! There is a new Zen Forum recently created by El Gatito at zen1.space which you are all cordially invited to join. It aims to become a welcoming vibrant and above all useful space for Zen on the interwebs. Most of all, it is a sum of its members and I see am...

Not sure what you want to say with this, Linda. Sounds like you disapprove but I'm just not sure.

el G,
does it mean that zfi is not coming back?
I think these are two separate issues. ZFI may well come back and those who wish to return, may of course well do so. Zenspace is yet another place. That's all.

Re: Zen Forum International status

We have our Zen sections here, which I see are picking up a little. I might be able to host another site, if time permits, to allow a Zen-only forum, if necessary. Are there some advantages of posting in a Zen only forum, rather than something more pan-Dharma like this site? Is it that those from o...

Re: Thus

I guess these conceptual contrivances is what keeps us going round and round. But when based in and powered by a deeply-buried pain, they ain't so easy to dissolve. Hence teachers, cushion-time, other practices and life lived with eyes as open as possible.

Or so it seems to me.

Re: Dont follow a lineage (etc.), follow a teacher

I think the importance of the relationship with a qualified teacher is that 1. He/she can identify where a student is stuck and given the students karmic package, how best to deal with this 'stuckness' - which practice/teaching is appropriate 2. Can act as a mirror to the student in which he/she ca...

Re: Zen Forum International status

As I said before I think a brand new Zen Forum would be great, but someone has to take responsibility for it. My feeling is that El G would be happy to contribute his technical know-how, but not be responsible for the overall Admin. Fair enough. Unfortunately having moved countries recently, doing f...

Re: THE UNIVERSE SHOULD NOT ACTUALLY EXIST, CERN SCIENTISTS DISCOVER

I think in every age, people thought everything important had been discovered already. And yet around the edges, there is weirdness and unexplained little bits that suddenly lead to a paradigm change. It is true that a lot of string theory assumptions cannot be tested and also that the sheer level o...

Re: Morality of stockholding

Starting a company often involves a great deal of initial investment of labour and money which is inherently risky. The people hired do not have to face the same risks. Hence it could be seen as trading risk (of losing the work and money expended by the owner) in exchange for profit. I don't think i...

Re: Thus

Friend, the way I see it, we need to discover for ourselves an original poetry, and avoid the warmed-over flatulence of the old zen language. If we can say something amazing without relying on Buddhist cliches, then we may be able to offer a contribution. Otherwise, it is just like another blind ma...

Re: Enlightenment success rate

AND, especially in the Pali Sutta, the Buddha continuously refers to "taints" and "stains" that need to be removed. This statement is quite true. The fact is to become Buddha, one must remove all taints and obstructions. That is how Buddha was able to see the universe, karma, rebirth etc so clearly...

Re: Introduction (and in need of some advice)

Hello Ignorant_Fool from a fellow ignorant fool :hi: As far Dharma practice and study go, I think it's a matter of balance. Study should inform practice, it should be relevant to the here-and-now. Otherwise it becomes just another thing to cling to, a source of more proliferation, the sort of stuff ...

Re: By way of welcome: Let's drink some tea!

Good idea, Anjali! The tea bowl is a container housing whatever is put in, like the mind. The tea is best when the container is rinsed and warmed up - letting go of impurities and giving energy to it. The tea itself is composed of all five elements: Earth, it grows out of. Water, it needs as sustena...

Re: What Have You Learned

I guess I've learned to take my dramas a little less seriously. There are still things that push my buttons, of course, things I haven't seen into deeply enough to uproot the attachment/aversion-self dynamics. There are still narratives that persist. But their stranglehold has loosened, so I don't g...
