Re: Found this Tibetan manuscript in a little box...

This is really cool. Try posting it on Vajracakra as well.

Re: Without a sect and without a vajra master

A vajra master is only required for vajrayana practice. There's many, many things to study and practice outside of that. No need at all to rush.

Re: War in Buddhism

When Bodhisattva vows require us to break precepts, it's got to be a very extreme situation and I wouldn't recommend most people do it. Of course a good example of this is killing someone who is immanently going to kill other people. (A suicide bomber, madman with a gun, etc) When armies are fighti...

Re: War in Buddhism

As I tried to communicate before, in war soldiers don't get to choose their targets. They are expected to follow orders. Normally soldiers kill other soldiers, and not just enemy soldiers attacking innocent civilians. Upholding the vow would require not participating in war. That is indeed very str...

Re: War in Buddhism

But it is clear that in the Mahayana it can be an acceptable (or least worst) course of action under certain circumstances - so it is 'OK' in that sense. First it's ok, then it's not ok, and now it's ok again. It's very straightforward. In order to maintain the bodhisattva vow a bodhisattva must ca...

Re: Realizing four thoughts

So, I should think 'I will die' regularly? There's loads of things. I personally like to look back and see that there have been situations that seemed so solid and troublesome but have now disappeared into the past. Or that I used to be a little kid, but am now a fully grown man who's gradually age...

I vote for impermanence too. It will help every practice.

Re: War in Buddhism

On the contrary, I'm arguing that there is no loophole. Sentient beings naturally value life so, generally speaking, killing is not "ok." That's just how it is, rule or no rule, we value life. Of course killing is not 'OK', but it is sometimes the necessary action, as with the example of ...

Re: War in Buddhism

Anyway, in the scenario about fighting soldiers intent on killing a village of civilians, I'm no war expert but civilians are not usually considered a good strategic target, particularly when there are enemy soldiers in the same vicinity. That suggests that the enemy command is irrational, and appa...

Re: Yale Students sign petition to repeal 1st amendment

Time for a moratorium on non-STEM courses in western universities. Give it ten years and then we can start up the liberal arts courses again, hopefully without all the Marxist nonsense that's embedded itself in academia for decades. :soapbox: Ahh....the right wing myth of Marxism dominating Academi...

But, really, those folks at Yale - they'll go to their jobs at Goldman or Google and live happily ever after completely insulated from ever needing the Bill of Rights to protect them. First Amendment? PshhhaH I've got Amazon Prime, b--hes!! To be fair, the reporter is doing a "gotcha" on ...

Re: Do tantras lose their power when they're exposed publicl

In any case, I live in a place where there is a very large Tibetan Buddhist community and has been for 40 years. Sorry to say, I don't get much of a sense of accomplishment from many really long-time practitioners. This is an interesting issue. I am not really sure I've met many western practitione...

The closest I've heard is maintaining them vicariously through dzogchen guruyoga. But that's not deleting them per se.

Re: War in Buddhism

You seem to have no sense of grey area, or be able to distinguish between training's and commandments. You imply that one can be following the path (towards the "other side of the river") while killing in war? Yes you can. Of course. It is a downfall of bodhisattva vows to not engage in n...

Re: False/Wrong View in Dzogchen

How do the consequences of having a false view manifest in practice of Dzogchen? I mean, what does it mean for people akin to my acquaintance mentioned above, who practice the semdzins, trekchoe, etc.? In Dzogchen the view IS the meditation. They aren't different. So if your view is wrong in some w...

I guess Heinrich Harrer is the most famous, who also has done a lot for dharma and Tibet. Of course he wasn't the most ideological and spent most of the time when Austria was under Nazi rule adventuring. http://www.zeit.de/wissen/geschichte/2012-07/harrer-lama/bitblt-820x462-0ffcff7964edd7515b84ad3a...

Re: Satanists offering to protect Muslims in Minneapolis

Luciferian Satanism is a very interesting take on Genesis. Kind of ties in well with Gnosticism. I believe the Temple of Set are more into this worldview.
