Re: Garchen Rinpoche Live Webcast 12-30, 12-31

Thank you for all the kindness; it was truly a blessed experience. Great to hear that Zealot. Just an idea, but maybe they should encourage people to turn their mobiles off. They certainly did encourage and request that on a couple of occasions, however, people can be very... protective when it come...

Re: Garchen Rinpoche Live Webcast 12-30, 12-31

Hey, I just got back from Arizona where I received that empowerment and took refuge in person. I'm so sorry that the quality was not up to expectations. We had to rely on short range satellites that communicated with a cell tower. Every cell phone on caused interference and the quality of the intern...

Re: Accepting Attachments/Household Life

Johnny, don't worry; I'm not running away. I know my attachments will follow me; I just hope that they will be a little more apparent and easy to work with somewhere else :D Wisdom, thank you for the words of caution. I shall tread carefully on my new path. PorkChop, thanks for the encouragement and...

Re: Accepting Attachments/Household Life

Thank you for the overwhelming amount of replies! I am touched :) At this point in my life what I have set forth for me is time for self-betterment (also don't have kids). Meaning that the only obligation I have to anyone and myself is doing better. I do meditate anywhere from 10 minutes to 2-3 hour...

Where shall I live?

Thank you for the reply, everyone, and in particular, Quiet Heart. You are right that what Im looking for is right here, it is right in front of me, but I keep being dragged back into defilement in this household life. My wish to leave it behind is pure, and wind of travel is within me. I need somew...

Re: Accepting Attachments/Household Life

:namaste: Porkchop, I am not the main provider of this household. I could leave this life behind. It would be hurtful, but only emotionally. If I were to keep the household life, likely it would end me in a position as provider. But currently, I could in good conscious leave. Im a little more concer...

Accepting Attachments/Household Life

I am struggling. I see two paths in front of me: One where I relinquish all my possessions, take up the robe and bowl, and find a master to teach me or a forest to live in. The other is the life Im living now, the household life. Though a few books Ive read talk briefly of this lifestyle, mostly I'v...

Re: Anxiety meds

If it works to wind you down when you feel you're getting out of control, use it in those circumstances. If you use it whenever you feel the slightest anxiety, however, you will become dependent on it to manage your emotions. The best advice I can give you is that it should be your last resort if mi...

Re: questions about fear and "advancement"

I share the same fears as my understanding of emptiness grows. Entering samadhi and finding loving-happiness to radiate might help. The wisdom in knowing that others need us compassionate and loving has helped me with this fear as well. Wishing the best Johnny, Duck. Garcher, that is the Right View....

Re: Defining sexual misconduct

You forgot protected people, Greg! Meaning don't go after a horny daughter with a disagreeable father (or mother, or anyone else protecting them). Well, I guess the quote covered it, but you only said "(1) Betrothed or engaged to be married." / end nit picking :offtopic: The footnote was ...

Re: Defining sexual misconduct

Sexual misconduct for a layperson does not mean "causing no harm whatsoever" IMO. Because you could argue that engaging in any sexual activity causes some harm to yourself, if only to perpetuate attachment to sense pleasures that is already existing. It mean more like "not causing ad...

Meditation and Pineal Gland

What do you folks know about the pineal gland? Do you consider it your third eye? What about the abundance of theories about the calcifying of it due to all the toxins we take in and in addition, how does one detox from them? And how does meditation fit in here? I know, a slew of random questions. T...

Re: Fetish.. .

Though it may be embarrassing, having some more information about your fetish could certainly help. I, for instance, have a large masochistic streak. What helped me with it was seeing myself as someone other than me because for some odd reason I believed I deserved punishment but others did not. Wit...

I try to remember to silence it because if I rings and I hear it, I tend to answer. Perhaps I should leave the volume on and get used to hearing and watching disappear.

Re: Sangha

Thank you, everyone! It helps immensely to see your kind words when depression overcomes this body. Though it is my intention to rid myself from this cycle of 'failure' and sadness, I know it is not simply something I can turn off. As my understanding deepens, however, I see myself more and more det...

Re: Sangha

How far are you from Crestone? it might be worthwhile to make pilgrimage to one of the many temples there. 126 mi, 2 hours 33 mins according to Google Maps. That would not be impossible, it would just take planning. In truth, it seems much of Colorado is divided that way. On sect of a community is ...
