Sticking to practice is a helpful point of view. Maybe even the only relevant thing.

Re: Are yidams and Tibetan Buddhist "deities" actually real?

This is kind of a sister post to the one in the Mahayana forum about Buddhas and Bodhisattvas being real, because I figured the Tibetan/Vajrayana approach was different enough to maybe give a different answer. Are Buddhas like Tara or Vairocana, bodhisattvas like Manjushri or Chenrezig, Dharma prot...

Re: Trauma and the public mind

I refer to the OP: I think, the phenomenon you observed, JD, just shows that pain is an internal process connected to negative thinking. Not the trauma itself creates the psychic desease but how people adjust or not. If a trauma is micro, it does not mean people suffer less. It just means the usual ...

Re: Bodhicaryāvatāra (text and commentary)

I think, it can be most interesting to read two versions of the same book. It reveals, how words are translation only. You can try to reach sense behind mere words.

And the Bodhicharyavatara is a deep work, worth studying in detail.

Re: How important is forgiveness?

Ayu, I can't imagine a better answer to the question than that presented here. I don't think much of rigid sectarian compartmentalization anyway. Nichiren and President Ikeda both use Buddhist texts (other than the Lotus) and secular quotes as well to illustrate principles Thank you very much. A di...

I believe, practically there are no important differences.
If you are searching for information due to the question which tradition to follow, maybe it's better to follow your heart.

Re: proof of nirvana?

A friend of mine naively asked me the other day, "is there any proof of Nirvana? can you show it to me?" Before i tell you how i answered, i am curious to know your answers. Can we prove the existence of Nirvana, either through logic or sutras? it is a fair question after all. Btw, I answered in th...

Re: Closeness with a teacher

My Gelug teacher has many students and followers. Not everyone can be physically close to him. The closest Western person to him is his translator, I guess. For many years he is besides his guru like a shadow. I bet, the translator learned a lot and he loves his "job" deeply. For us ordinary student...

Isn't that a projection? Are you hungry or did you miss the dessert at lunch? For me it looks like clay... but I think the cap / hairstyle is oversized.

Re: How important is forgiveness?

Forgiveness is an important tool for mental health and cleansing the karma as well. Forgiveness gives peace of mind, because other people's faults are no longer your business. Maybe you can find some English text about the Four Powers (or how is this practice called in English?) I mean: - Admitting ...
