Re: TRUCK FUMP

It is difficult to understand that they are considered to be criminal. If you simply try to protect your children and you don't harm anybody, why are you a criminal then? Those illegal immegrants thought to flee an insecure country and reach a secure country. They obviously didn't know that there is...

Re: Help me with a difficult family conversation.

When I was vegetarian for 13 years, I learned to avoid these kinds of conversations. People got upset quickly when I explained why I did not eat meat. They responded: "But you should not drink coffee then!" Or "You still eat chocolate!!!" I learned, not to explain anything to people who would feel u...

Re: TRUCK FUMP

Ah, sory then.
In Germany they only talked about the G7 mess and the substanceless meeting with Kim Yong Un. We do not hear anything about the health insurance mess and nothing at all about this cruelty at the border.

Right now there is nothing but soccer WC broadcasting day and night.

Re: My new neighbor

I recommend earplugs and dark sunglasses. Maybe you can invite some friends to your cottage as well? I don't think the earplugs or dark glasses would really help. If I had some friends it would be good though, to kind of go through this experience with me. Thanks for the suggestions. Why is this su...

Re: Western Monastic - reasons why she left

.... However, maybe since you have Gelug background you could tell us here more how it works as I believe Gelug has probably most focus on monastics. All I know: it's difficult. People try to sort out financial sponsors before they ordain. Some have spared money from good jobs in their former life ...

Also do you agree that in the west there should be created an ordained community of westerners?
No, ordained should not seperate due to nationality. But desperately a system of financial support for western monks and nuns is needed.

Re: Font Size on Profile?

How does one open up the Profile Signature? There is no part here in the edits. Index page ---> Private messages, there in the left above: profile ---> in the middle: edit whatever, i.e. signature, avatar and so on. There's only occupation and interests here, nothing else. No signature. Okay, you'r...

Re: Competitive meditators...

[ Fun aside. For me the imagination of being inspired by a modern alarmclock is strange (foreign). I couldn't use that, I think, but I don't need it either. For me inspiration is an internal affair and the discussions sometimes with my poor mood to start are part of the process. But many people see...

Re: Competitive meditators...

I've committed to sit every day in 2018. I'm not in a competition, but one thing that has definitely come into play is that every day I get a reminder from Insight Timer app 'you've completed 165 days straight' (or whatever the count is of today's date). So - if I miss a day, then it's going to tak...

All modesty aside, I am almost certainly one of the least competitive meditators in the world.
BS! I am less competitive than you and I have the total lack of any attainment to back it up.

Competition about who is the least I find common amongst Buddhists. It's equally difficult like being the best, because only one can be the last.

Re: Mipham: Gelug = Svatantrika Madhyamaka

The Svatantrika Madhyamaka - which is just below the most profound school in the Madhyamaka philosophy, the Prasangika Madhyamaka - uses a term called nominal ultimate reality. A working definition of the word “nominal” is “in name only,” as in something that is just merely labeled as ultimate real...

Re: is a home made statue acceptable?

Well, I learned there are differences in this matter regarding the different traditions. Interesting. I thought this are basics where theravada, pureland, mahayana and vajrayana have to agree, because it is no unusual thing in buddhism generally to make statues, :sage: But pardon me, finally I'll sh...
