Re: Happy New Year!

As far as I can see two weeks later: it is possible. I have to remember to relax only. And don't take everything too seriously.

Re: On and Off the cushion...

Hi, I enjoy my morning practice. Its often a time when I feel closer to the guru and also experience a real sense of perspective with regards to life in general. When I sit, the Dharma seems to envelope my life and everything in it rather than the Dharma being a part of my life. However, almost as ...

Re: Young Dharma Retreat near Melbourne

I heard of retreats for kids and teenagers, but "under 35" I fail to understand. What is the difference between 30-year-old and 40-year-old Dharma practicioners? What is the purpose?

I accept, if you will.
I think, you'll have to stay for a while, write some hundred sane posts. Maybe later, in two years or so, if some mod is burned out and wants to leave, then they might gladly accept your offer.

Re: Becoming a moderator?

You're right - being a moderator is the best test and education for serenity and compassion. Your ego will be pumped up and smashed apart again until you understand: everything, every praise and every slander about yourself is nothing. It's empty.

Re: Do Admins/Mods have access to read our PMs?

You are not authorised to read private messages that are on hold. I never saw such a message. If a PM is deleted before reading the text is different, AFAIK. Mods and Admins cannot read other PM's than their own. Fortunately, because there's too much crap to read for a mod anyhow. Exception: modera...

Re: The Future

Apologies if this has been discussed before, but I am concerned that Vajrayana Buddhism is going the way of Christianity in the West. It seems that things reached their peak in the 70's-80's here and now the loyal practitioners are becoming older, there are fewer and fewer young people getting inte...

I'm planning to work harder in a more relaxed way. I'm curious to see, if that's possible.

Re: what is your approach to Dharma?

I think, scholarship and yoga mats, wellness, health and even devotion do not have to contradict eachother. Since Dharma is way more than books or personal well-being, since Dharma is literally everything there is, the personal approach differs from the persons and the phases they are going through....

Re: Weed is now legal in California

Is this legalized medical marihuana less strong than the hashish that spreads nowadays in Germany? I saw people faint and vomit from smoking it. I can't even stay in the same room when people smoke it. If I inhale it passively, I have hallucinations next morning. Not funny. I think, this modern ent...

Re: Requesting bodhisattvas for help

As far as I understand, a big portion of the nutrition of the world's population depends on seafood. There would be starvation without.
If we saw and understood the complete interdependence of phenomena we would have infinite equanimity and compassion.

Anyone ever used a nose hair trimmer? Any good?
I think, it always depends on the quality of the tool. Any good cutting tool is not cheap. Expensive scissors or knifes cut well a whole lifetime while cheap quality is able to cut only shortly or never.

No. I'd LOVE to hear those guys cover "Round and Round" though.
I love cello music in any form.

Re: Possible pranic disturbance from incorrect yoga??

The Hindu Yoga teacher who taught me Yoga long time ago told that Pranayama is a high and thus dangerous practice. It's simply irresponsible to spread this practice via books commonly. There are some preparations necessary to practice it and many do's and don'ts. As far as I know. Pranayama has far ...
