Re: I like this forum

"Saving" people is usually an exclusively self-centered act, regardless of religion..it's nearly a kind of narcissism. Doing your best to figure out what people are in need of spiritually (like a friend, not like a superior), then doing your utmost to provide if you can, that is the a better approach.

Re: The Road Trip

Ah man I love Pagosa Springs. As a younger man I used to go there with my girlfriend (now wife) on road trips from Albuquerque. I want to do nothing but hang out in a hot pool there for like a week. Your a lucky guy man. This is an amazing part of the country. Kevin The Southwest really is awesome,...

Re: Dzongsar Khyentse on the importance of Mahayana

I think I understand what you are trying to say JD, but your comments remind me of something CTR wrote: At the vajrayana level, we begin with faith in the teachings and the teacher, because we have already experienced the truth and the work-ability of the teachings for ourselves. Then, with the dis...

Re: Mahamudra, Dzogchen, Zen

You'll do better learning the language from the masters, rather than getting refutations from us. Vasana offered excellent advice: "You might also want to read what you can from Namkhai Norbu, the late Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche and his sons who give a very clear and lucid explanation." Read those thing...

Re: Dzongsar Khyentse on the importance of Mahayana

  I feel fortunate to have had multiple teachers (yep, within the Tibetan traditions) that explicitly and strongly encouraged people to be responsible for their own practice, while emphasizing the deep relationship with one's mentors and/or Gurus. In fact don't think I cou...

Re: Om Ma Tri Mu Ye Sa Le Du

The things about the Three Bodies correspondence has always confused me, it seems like in Bön the head/AH is Dharmakaya, but I have never gotten a definitive answer...it would be cool if someone had a definitive source on the question here. On a related note: Cut and pasting articles is fine, but th...

Re: Giving Up Masturbation

IME LS has the right idea, start with moderation and a desire to productively use excess sexual energy, and keep the natrative about it to a minimum. Caffeine really overloads my sex drive, worth at least looking if something like that is involved. Exercise, Tsa Lung etc. Help me to keep my raging h...

Re: Dzongsar Khyentse on the importance of Mahayana

DJKR makes a point here, I mostly agree. But just to gum up the works, you can also Mahayana only practitioners who talk love and compassion, but who display a rigid, neurotic, puritanical approach to Dharma. The Vajrayana style of neurosis may be more ostentatious...but I'm not sure I'm convinced i...

Re: DJKR, Sogyal Rinpoche, and Dharma in the West...

Why do you suppose that? Many are not serious practitioners and have at most a passing familiarity with Dharma. Kirt I am sure that anybody brought up in a Buddhist culture will have more than a passing familiarity with (at least) the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path, that alone means...

I am starting to think that our believe in existence of well-adjusted and normal people is what is keeping us from being well-adjusted and normal. :D

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I sort of like that the DC does it's own stuff, but is there an explicit reason they do not use an available streaming service? I mean if the answer is that they want the DC to remain independent of these, that is a good thing, and we should take our lumps...but if not... Initially, they developed ...

I've had the opposite experience..lots of technical issues with DC webcasts, not like it dimishes the preciousness of the content or anything like that. Compared to teachings that happen over larger services they seem less reliable to me...however, the autonomy afforded by not using those services i...

Re: Trump Tweets

I want to agree with Fraser, but her article doesn’t factor in the current trend of personalized facts, where people believe anything they think (or are told by people-like-us) is true. This is all the more reason to stop turning every Trump Voter into a caricature, and someone who cannot be "reach...
