Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

Oh yeah, our system has a really great record with fairly implementing stuff like that and being prudent with uses of executive power, especially as regards marginalized groups. Oh wait no, the complete opposite is true.

Witb that, I'm done with the conversation, have fun.

Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

A total ban of guns is a ridiculous, and draconian idea, when has that actually been proposed? seems pretty reasonable to me, apart from law enforcement and the military, civilians really do not need firearms for more than hunting and sport. How would it be enforced here, short of violating the 4th...

Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

A total ban of guns is a ridiculous, and draconian idea, when has that actually been proposed? However, making it harder for anyone at all to go to wal mart to pick up an AR 15 any time they like sounds like a grand idea to me, especially now that we are in the era of people collecting and hoarding ...

I've always wondered if fear is just defined as another version of aversion in Buddhist terms - this is what i've always assumed.

Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

Disclosure: I was encouraged to get a gun for self protection when I was living in a really high crime area in South Central LA. I have some crazy stories, but I learned that if you aren't involving yourself with gangs and drugs, you really don't have anything to fear. As it turned out, I never had...

The real violence of a system based on inequality is buried.... it ain't easy Phil Ochs is awesome, I discovered him after hearing the Jello version back when;) Even with the outdated references, it really speaks to the pre...

Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

let's see it for what it is.... there is no public debate tho it may seem so. It comes down to the $$ bribes for our politicians. Law abiding gun owners are not the problem. I am not sure about this. I have some friends who actually own AR 15's themselves, who are all for common sense measures to k...

This country has lost its f'in mind. http://www.kansascity.com/news/state/missouri/article200763099.html Truly abhorrent. It's amazing, I know so many otherwise rational people here who own AR 15s, and somehow think their right to own them should trump what is basically a national health crisis at ...

Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

I think people having the ability to sue gun manufacturers similar to what happened with Big Tobacco is all that will ever change this. AFAIK right now it is impossible, they can't be held responsible for anything, even when they do stuff like sell more deadly ammunition as "zombie bullets", which i...

Matter is a an appearance of ignorance, not knowledge (rig pa). Arising from traces from a previous universe, ad infinitum? The appearances of ignorance are the mutual traces of sentient beings appearing to one another. When that ignorance is removed, one can manifest rainbow body. Ok, i'l chew on ...

If the Five Light arise from the basis, and all matter is ultimately the Five Lights, doesn't this mean that in fact, in some sense all matter is pervaded by awareness, just simply not "from it's own side"? No, the reason for this is that such appearances are a result of traces, i.e., all appearanc...

Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

Did this ban apply to weapons like the AR 15? I recall that it did not. How would a ban on this sort of weapon even work, now that they are everywhere? Yes, it included the AR-15. However, overall it was still a pretty weak law in that it had: The Act included a "grandfather clause" that allowed fo...

If you like the war on drugs your going to love the war on guns! What does that even mean? It's worth considering, the US has a history of prohibition of contraband turning into yet another war on poor people. I expect that punitive legislation would play out much like the war on drugs has here. I ...

Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

There was an assault weapons ban in the U.S. back in 1994 under Bill Clinton. It expired in 2004 and was not renewed. But it could be renewed, if the Dems can win both houses of Congress and the White House; which is very possible in 2020. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Assault_Weapons_Ban D...

Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

I can't see a program like that working in the US at all. The only people here that would favor a program like that are likely middle class urbanites who already don't own guns. So even if the political class had the will, I don't think most of the gun owners would. IIRC Australias population is als...

More of a cat person, but I've had some great dogs. Right now we have an eight year old rat terrier we got from a shelter. She has one of the most unique dog personalities I've seem, different than what I expected for my first little dog.
