Re: Where are 1% of Americans?

Yes, I agree. I think our prisons should be more like drug treatment programs than anything. A choice to enter some drug treatment program is sometimes a differential response that is (if you can call it a choice) given to offenders rather than incarceration. But the drug addiction, poverty, mental...

Suggestions?
Don't pick at it.

Seriously though, when I was in massage school I recall learning specific techniques that were said to be helpful, however I never had a psoriatic patient so I had no opportunity to use them.

Re: Where are 1% of Americans?

I don't have Netflix, but I did hear about this show. Yes, the whole system needs change. I could have sworn that the notion of prison was originally some sort of Quaker idea of rehabilitation and that it wasn't supposed to be punishment for the poor, as it was in debtor's prison back in the day. S...

Re: Where are 1% of Americans?

I have a fair amount of experience with people currently or formerly incarcerated. I don't believe the prisons or any industry should profit from forced labor. But the problem's deeper and bigger than that. If it were up to me, I'd put most of the money spent on prisons into education, job, mental ...

Re: Where are 1% of Americans?

Regular visits to a prison really clarified the absurdity of our justice system to me, especially the War on Drugs.

Re: Tibetan divination article

I would very much like to learn the practice of the melong sometime. I looked on-line and saw that the empowerments and teachings were given last year at Tara Mandala. I can't really afford Tara Mandala retreats (or leave my kids for that long), but I was happy to see that it's something that is of...

Re: melong pendant

They should have an international bank code they can email you so you can use it online or in your bank. I even managed to pay people in Mongolia that way, so it must be something they can do. It may be all they are after is your own international code which your bank can provide. I just entered al...

Re: melong pendant

Dzam in case it's not clear, is affiliated with the SSI and DC. So I'd buy from them if not available on an SSI site. Actually tried this, but their order form does not work for me, it demands a fiscal code, and a couple other things that don't apply to the US. They should have an international ban...

Shang Shung is out of stock, and I have wanted one for a while.I prefer to have my money go to the DC, but who knows when they will have them again. Does anyone have suggestions for other places to buy them? I saw some on etsy and other places that also have the Longsal symbol, mostly from Russia.....

Re: How do I go deeper into Zen practice?

Your teacher is telling you something very deep. Spend time trying to understand/embody it. Hello. I've been practicing Zazen for about 3-4 years now. I try to sit for 30 minutes twice a day (but a lot of times it's more like once). I go to a local (Soto) Zen center on and off, but I've mostly just...

Re: What is the purpose of chanting?

I recently attended the first day of a retreat in the Nyingma lineage. The first thing I noticed was that there was a whole lot of chanting going on and not much meditation. They did a Dharmapala which apparently is an hour and a half of chanting. I've only practiced in the Zen tradition, so this w...

Mantras and Invocations E Download

Does anyone know, does the above contain only pronunciations, or pronunciations and melodies? Feel free to PM.

Re: How do I go deeper into Zen practice?

First, I would reconsider your idea that 'meditation' means just sitting quietly. If your idea of meditation sets that limitation, it doesn't matter the tradition, it will prevent you from going deeper. Beyond that, just try different places out, get a feel for what they are doing, don't be afraid t...

Re: Do Admins/Mods have access to read our PMs?

Ok, That's all I was wanting to know. Whether or not PM's were open to reading as simple as reading a forum thread for mods/admins, etc. But yes, the error I got was due to my inbox being full, I cleared my old messages, and it allowed me to release the new PMs. Thank you for the responses! It's go...

Re: Problems on Machig Labdron

Okay, so I recieved the Chod lung from Lama Tsultrim Allione's webcast, but am now having problem on the practice. I followed the advice of looking at a thangka, then close my eyes, then open and so on to get the image in my head. Unfortunately, I may have made her rather too attractive for me, so ...

Re: Will Oprah Run for President?

On a serious note, what exactly was so great about Oprah's speech? Just read a transcript. Meh. Nothing remarkable, to a friendly audience. People will seemingly lap up anything these days as "resistance" to Drumpf. The bar was already so low on the left for what constituted functional main...

Re: The Future

I'm finding all the comments on this subject very interesting. I hope Greg is right, though. And so which of you can tell me if that story about the prophecy, you know the one where the Dharma spreads when the iron horse or whatnot flies (i'm obviously mangling it badly) is an apocryphal legend, or...
