Re: US and Allies Launch Strikes on Syria

World war in sight? Bombing tactic   and Russian answer suggest that no http://www.bbc.com/portuguese/internacional-43771683 (portuguese) :namaste: IDK, but the US has been bombing the Middle East and conducting proxy wars there for my entire lifetime. So if there's something to sound an alarm abou...

Re: Is punishment of children required?

You really wouldn't believe the stuff which happens here in the UK.......mostly because in my experience the police never turn up so there is no 'official' record.....and teachers, hospital staff and others have now come to regard it as routine, sadly. I grew up in a high-crime area, in a high crim...

Sure, a result of over-permissive parenting and discipline styles, among other things. Then again, on the other side we have evidence of the autorcratic style of the past leading to 1) highly dysfunctional and wounded people, and/or 2) People who are simply good at doing bad things when no one ls l...

Re: Is punishment of children required?

The current trend is away from punishment or over-permissiveness, and towards natural consequences, which to me makes sense. Definitely with my experiences so far in fatherhood, trying to get kids to be as independent and responsible as possible is where it's at. Instead of being autocratic and "pun...

Re: in the air

I know what you mean. My mental state is affected by the quality of the sky. When it is wide and clean, a big sky, I feel spacious. In Korea the Gobi sands blow in each spring bringing with them pollution from China. Some days the sky was literally yellow. Thankfully I'm no longer living there. I s...

Honestly, if you are just worried about basic health, long walks, maybe some bodyweight exercise or weights are where its at. If you want to do something specific, bigger question.

Re: Weed is now legal in California

Unfortunately some people are very susceptible to these substances. Some alcohol for many people should be fine though. But for some it's not. Tobacco clearly just obscures ones inner body. I've seen one Zen teacher smoke (and he admitted that it was an addiction and didn't recommend it). It probab...

Re: Sleep Awareness?

Can we be aware while sleeping but not dreaming? Thank you. Sleep practice of resting in clear light is a more 'advanced' practice than working with dream lucidity. I have never remotely acheived it, just relaying what I've been taught. There are practices for just this. I'm not good at it but the ...

Not that relevant, but After one small tipple of beer to many, yesterday involved a couple of very small bowls . eughhhhhhh . I used to be a daily smoker, but it now just annihilates any clarity that was present - it's like iv'e gone 18 steps down the evolutionary chain.... Learnt a valuable lesson...

Re: How has your relationship with Refuge evolved over time?

I had a hard time in the beginning taking refuge in the external triple gem. Early on (learning prostrations in fact) I was told to just take refuge in the nature of mind or Buddha nature, since I had a block with outer manifestations. It definitely helped, that block is starting to clear and now I ...

Re: helicobacter pylori bacteria endemic in Tibetan monastery

Maybe Oreganol which is made from wild oregano can remove it. I have seen it advised in protocol for ulcer. It's very potent stuff. Maybe also specific technology, like the rife devices, spooky2 for exemple, may be helpful to get rid of this, in a very targeted way. The antibiotic regimens work, an...

Re: Last Jedi? What'd you think?

It's actually my favorite Star Wars movie, but honestly I also -really- liked Rogue One, and loved the originals as a kid. I have never watched the prequels and I'm told that's a good thing. I'm undecided on whether or not there was really an 'SJW" message, or just an anti- elite message in the movi...

Re: Not been feeling like attending dharma events

Within my Sakya group, empowerments are something you do for the experience and blessing, and not all have detailed commitments. I'm sure everyone would agree that empowerments are profound experiences. I've had a couple that completely changed things for me. I've also done a number with no comittme...

Re: helicobacter pylori bacteria endemic in Tibetan monastery

Something like half of the world has this bacteria, AFAIK they do not really understand why some people can live with it and some cannot. I had it for years (presumably), then at age 40 all the sudden I had crippling heartburn and was regurgitating stomach acid into my lungs causing asthma, fun stu...

Re: ‘Dharmas do not arise’

From here I do encounter this declaration on DharmaWheel regularly, but I don’t understand it. What I always want to say is ‘but I still have to mow the lawn’. So - what does it mean? Just consult the good 'ol Heart Sutra I think. All of the 12 links are inherently empty, and there is no actual beg...
