Re: Blessing Images?

Thangka is something more than painting and comes from deep understanding of religion, symbolism, proportions, angles, lines, colours, shapes, positions, every single piece painted or used have its meaning. As i understand the process its not the bless that makes thangka, its every single moment of...

Re: What it means to be a ngakpa

Why do get discussions so easily heated on the DW? Three issues I would like to contribute: one quotation, one question, one reference (1) Yuk sha. Leave it there. Leave it there. Let's have some tea C.R.Lama (2) Where lies the difference between a Ngakpa and a Togden? Lineage? Vows? Celibacy? (3) ...

Re: Blessing Images?

I've been told by a couple people (whom I trust) that pretty much any practitioner can recite Ye Dharma Hetu over their rupas. I don't know if counts as a quality blessing or not, and I assume it's just a personal blessing thing, like you wouldn't do it for someone else because you're not in any pos...

I really hope it's better than the "Buddhist" main character from Ironfist. That show gave me an aneurysm.
This is the truth.

Re: Where are 1% of Americans?

My experience in the UK is that facts really don't matter; so I'll just say what I am detecting: Poor whites and poor blacks and poor asians all feel they are treated worst of all, have the least privileges, suffer the most discrimination etc. These things ebb and flow, but after terrorist attacks ...

Re: Where are 1% of Americans?

Classism is also a big problem in the states. Terms like "white trash" and "hillbilly" are always being thrown out to describe poorer whites by upper class whites. Minorities on the other are being tormented for being minorities and lower class. Yep, very accurate statement IMO. it's perfectly ok i...

Big question, but the Four Reminders and the Lojong slogans are a pretty good start.

Re: Where are 1% of Americans?

Yes, I agree. I think our prisons should be more like drug treatment programs than anything. A choice to enter some drug treatment program is sometimes a differential response that is (if you can call it a choice) given to offenders rather than incarceration. But the drug addiction, poverty, mental...

It’s unpleasant

Suggestions?
Don't pick at it.

Seriously though, when I was in massage school I recall learning specific techniques that were said to be helpful, however I never had a psoriatic patient so I had no opportunity to use them.

Re: Where are 1% of Americans?

I don't have Netflix, but I did hear about this show. Yes, the whole system needs change. I could have sworn that the notion of prison was originally some sort of Quaker idea of rehabilitation and that it wasn't supposed to be punishment for the poor, as it was in debtor's prison back in the day. S...

Re: Where are 1% of Americans?

I have a fair amount of experience with people currently or formerly incarcerated. I don't believe the prisons or any industry should profit from forced labor. But the problem's deeper and bigger than that. If it were up to me, I'd put most of the money spent on prisons into education, job, mental ...

Regular visits to a prison really clarified the absurdity of our justice system to me, especially the War on Drugs.

Re: Tibetan divination article

I would very much like to learn the practice of the melong sometime. I looked on-line and saw that the empowerments and teachings were given last year at Tara Mandala. I can't really afford Tara Mandala retreats (or leave my kids for that long), but I was happy to see that it's something that is of...

Re: melong pendant

They should have an international bank code they can email you so you can use it online or in your bank. I even managed to pay people in Mongolia that way, so it must be something they can do. It may be all they are after is your own international code which your bank can provide. I just entered al...

Re: melong pendant

Dzam in case it's not clear, is affiliated with the SSI and DC. So I'd buy from them if not available on an SSI site. Actually tried this, but their order form does not work for me, it demands a fiscal code, and a couple other things that don't apply to the US. They should have an international ban...

Re: How do I go deeper into Zen practice?

Your teacher is telling you something very deep. Spend time trying to understand/embody it. Hello. I've been practicing Zazen for about 3-4 years now. I try to sit for 30 minutes twice a day (but a lot of times it's more like once). I go to a local (Soto) Zen center on and off, but I've mostly just...

Re: What is the purpose of chanting?

I recently attended the first day of a retreat in the Nyingma lineage. The first thing I noticed was that there was a whole lot of chanting going on and not much meditation. They did a Dharmapala which apparently is an hour and a half of chanting. I've only practiced in the Zen tradition, so this w...
