Re: Celibacy & Enlightenment

I have to disagree. 'Lay clergyman' is a contradiction in terms since 'lay' means 'not of the clergy'. I know that the word is used by many people to distinguish between non-celibate and celibate, but that usage is incorrect.

Re: Celibacy & Enlightenment

Just a note: 'Lay' does not mean non-celibate, it means a person who is not ordained, or not part of the clergy, an amateur as opposed to a 'professional'. One would not refer to great Lamas such as Dud'jom Rinpoche, for example, as 'lay'.

Re: Are there Really Naljor in the west?

In my sangha those who have taken ngak'phang vows are instructed to wear robes when on retreat or attending teachings & practices. It is emphasized that when wearing the robes we are representing the tradition so it would not be appropriate to engage in behavior that would reflect badly on it (l...

No, although I've seen it demonstrated.

Are you surprised at how many people don't know what a 'yes or no question' is?

No. But I've fallen asleep in movies.

Do you think you'll live to be 84?

Re: More Trungpa talk

Like most of the people who post their views about Trungpa Rinpoche, I never met him personally. I find his books amazing & inspiring, & that's all I can say. It isn't necessary to form an opinion, you know, to be able to put something solid into the My View box & go on to defend it agai...

I thought the article was really excellent, especially this: 'If you think you are free of self deception, go ahead, think again'.

I'm thinking.

Would you say then that only a Buddhist can achieve realization?

Actually it never occurred to me to ask exactly where Aro Lingma & her disciples lived. Maybe it is an obvious question to some but it wasn't to me. I guess I wasn't looking to prove or disprove anything.

Re: Contemporary tertons of Eastern Tibet

Because there never existed any Lingma as far as I know in general (don't hesitate to prove me wrong), and no Aro Lingma in particular. Nobody except Chogyam has heard of her. Nobody in Tibet, nobody (tibetologists, practitioners, lineage holders, etc.) working or living in the region she is suppos...

Re: Contemporary tertons of Eastern Tibet

Hello, Dharma Wheel Looking at this forum for the first time I am saddened to see that people are still rehashing misinformation about Ngak'chang Rinpoche (Ngakpa Chögyam) & the Aro gTér that originated on e-Sangha. If anyone is interested in hearing the other side of the story you might like to...
