Re: Why not Theravada

They need to do a PBS documentary on the Mahasiddhas who founded Vajrayana, starting with their basis in Madhyamaka.

Re: Completion of the path of Tögal

I think the way the Olds did it was perfect.

Of course you are not supposed to talk during the practice. But I assume they would have known that.

Re: Mahamudra and Dzogchen: Are they based on Sutra or Tantra?

I trust that it is apparent that both Madhyamaka, and Tathagatagarbha, are at least conceptually-relevant, in reference to these quotes, and especially to the one above, from "The Summary of Maitripa's Mahamudra." It should be apparent to those with discernment that Gampopa did not "add Tathagathag...

Re: Completion of the path of Tögal

Yes. /magnus Really? I would be interested if someone can demonstrate this. Here is a extract from the Union of Sun and the Moon Tantra; "1) As a beginner, using the bee-like conduct of integrating numerous Dharma teachings, you should attain certainty as to learning, reflection and meditation. 2) ...

Re: Why not Theravada

If you are interested in the stories of "mortal men", definitely read the biographies of Chokgyur Lingpa and Dudjom Rinpoche.

There is more than one Buddha. The founders of Vajrayana, the Mahasiddhas, were all Buddhas.

Re: Completion of the path of Tögal

The root tantras of Dzogchen? What like the Guhyagarbha Tantra? The 17 Tantras?

:rolling:

Are these going to show you must be in an isolated thogal retreat???

Karma Dorje wrote:many practitioners will practice their entire life without reading the works of Maitreya.

Yes, Candrakīrti or Atisa would have said something if the Tathagatagarbha Sutras were important.

Indians ignored these texts for a reason.

Re: Why not Theravada

Basically dependently originated phenomena never arise in the first place. All we are left with is illusion. Things only seem real because of imputed identities.

Re: Why not Theravada

Some quotes from "Nagarjuna's Reason Sixty" Nagarjuna's says: I bow to the Lord of Sages, who proclaimed relativity, the way by which he abandoned creation and destruction! You who have eliminated nihilism, the source of all ills, should attend to the reasons why absolutism must be rejected as well....

Re: Why not Theravada

I haven't gotten around to getting into Madhyamaka yet, but I did check out that book (sounds interesting, but I'm broke and can't afford the $40-$50 to get it anyway). I get most of my Dharma books through interlibrary loan. I haven't gotten around to getting into Madhyamaka yet, but I did check o...

Or if you don't like this mystical stuff, study Madhyamaka's 'vajra sliver' reasoning which is most powerful atheism on the planet. "Center of the Sunlit Sky" is the best book on that. You've been promoting that book in response to several different threads recently, and I use the word promoting sp...

Re: Completion of the path of Tögal

Even in ordinary society, this is disrespectful of women. How much more so when discussing the dharma which exalts women as the embodiment of the Perfection of Wisdom. Very curious approach. Its possible my mind has been warped from reading the root tantras and their view of women (actually girls) ...

What the heck are you talking about?

I think you mean the subnavel area. But you need transmission and instruction for that.

This is all part of Completion Stage.

Re: Why not Theravada

Dudjom Lingpa and modern day Dudjom Rinpoche, Namkhai Norbu and many others have Buddha encounters. In a lucid dream, where clarity is seven times higher, one's own wisdom can take the form of Buddhas and Pure Lands. Pure Land Buddhism is a form of phowa, which shapes a nice bardo experience of the ...
