Re: Letter do ODAISHISAMA

Has someone used this service before? If so, how has been your experience? Can someone please explain to me how this works. They do actually read your prayers before the tomb of Kukai? :thanks: http://www.odaisi.net/enindex.html They say they do. I visited Koyasan a year ago so I was curious enough...

On that point, here are some cautionary tales: The Psychology of Idealistic Diets http://beyondveg.com/cat/psych/index.shtml especially Health Food Junk...

Re: Definition of human in Buddhism

I learned about Darwin, but never read his treatise. But evolution is good science and compatible with Buddhism. I didn't know that some western evolutionaires equate a human with an animal. Sounds weird that they do that, they must be mistaken in their research. Any little human even in his young ...

Re: Race in America

I just came across census figures on ethnicity in Australia - and even I was surprised. http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/Lookup/by%20Subject/2071.0~2016~Main%20Features~Cultural%20Diversity%20Article~20 There are some comparisons with the US, Canada and other countries, too. :coffee: Kim

Re: Race in America

how long before the tibetan people are indistinguishable from the han? Will we celebrate that too? And the Manx from the English, the French from the Spanish, the Germans from the Dutch? Yes, we will lose a lot of good things as well as bad ones. But the mixing is inevitable, given good transport, ...

I remember going to a reunion of a part of my family that lives in rural Southern Tier New York State - Binghamton is the closest city. It was and still is country. Personally, I look forward to the day when race/ethnicity is so blurred by migration and intermarriage that it's a non-issue. No doubt we will still find ways to create divisions between "us" and "them" * but it would be great to get rid of this really obvious one asa...

It's called the Middle Way for a very good reason. Avoid all extremes and be happy to just muddle along as best you can.

Coming in late, here ... thanks for a good discussion on the environmental implications of capitalism, socialism and over population, and yes, I agree that we face intractably inter-connected problems (but I'm not going to give up - ever). Because those attempts always begin with revolution and there is always a small group of people that holds power and they don't have to care about anything else but how to hold their power. Pretty much true. But still, who is going to bell the cat? Well not sure. But I bet we all can do our small b...
