Re: Drug Addiction

Yes I don't think it is wise to lump all psychoactive compounds together with the term drug. Some allow people to escape, and become addictions. Others force people to look at their lives, and if used properly can be positively transformative. There is research with positive results of using psyched...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

good points DGA  I felt at the time though that he would be a refreshing change, well really.. anyone would have been  and his openness to work with the other parties to create a coalition was great, though unfortunately that didn't come to pass. I like him though, he seems like a genu...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

There was no coup in Canada. The Canadian electoral system, first-past-the-post, made it possible for a clown like Harper to push past for more than one election against a divided and profoundly incompetent opposition. Stephane Dion, anyone? Michael Ignatieff ? everyone's pal, Gilles Duceppe? How's...

Re: Any entertaining novels not too incompatible with awakening?

my favourite novels have been the ones by Haruki Murakami - I've read them all and enjoyed every one :)

his books feel quite unique to me in terms of mood, and it's been quite enjoyable to explore the worlds he paints :)

Re: Dzongsar khyentse... monk?

Kelly Roberts: Why do you sometimes wear monk’s robes? Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche: In Buddhism, we talk about several different stages of degeneration. There’s one degenerated time that Buddha called tagtsam zinpey du, the time when monastic robes are maintained just as a mark or symbol. That’s wher...

Re: Mala's

I bought mine from the Tibetan Nuns Project store ( https://tnp.org/products/long-malas-3/ )

Good prices, reasonable shipping costs (I'm in Canada too), good selection, and the proceeds go to support the Tibetan Nuns Project :)

Re: Universal Atman in Buddhism

Found this to be a fascinating read: http://www.spiritualteachers.org/b_roberts_interview.htm Initially, when I looked into Buddhism, I did not find the experience of no-self there either; yet I intuited that it had to be there. The falling away of the ego is common to both Hinduism and Buddhism. T...

Re: Is is possible to be Buddhist and Hindu?

Compare with Vimalakirti: Manjusri, when something is baseless, how can it have any root? Therefore, all things stand on the root which is baseless . I don't know about this Vimalakirti, but here's something from ChNN: Through Dzogchen we can really understand what God is and we don’t have to worry...

I remember hearing him say that if we wanted to make an offering to him it would be better to use the money for life release practices, or something along that line

Re: Gifting Dharma Books

when gifting books to people from other countries, I often use http://www.bookdepository.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; as they offer free worldwide shipping on any order (without a minimum cost). so I just put the recipients name and address as the shipping address and my detail...
