Re: Buddhist version of Mahavidya Bhairavi?

There's not necessarily a direct analogue of Bhairavi, but based on the article you linked and the noted association of Bhairavi to Kali, I'm tempted to say Tröma Nagmo. At very least, the names Bhairavi and Tröma operate in similar semantic orbits. Then of course there's the association with Kundal...

Re: Dharma Fellowship

Could the "Vijaya lineage" refer specifically to the lineage of transmission of the Ushnishavijaya (Namgyalma) mandala and associated practices within Karma Kagyu? The only reason i even thought of this possibility is because I've been involved in a project that's been investigating the lineages of ...

Re: Garchen Rinpoche's 2017 Teaching Schedule

Re: Ngödrup Terjung = ?

In this case gter 'byung is definitely part of the proper title of the text, as it's a lineage prayer (bla rgyud gsol 'debs), and doesn't have anything to do with a terma cycle. It's related to one of the mandalas that Marpa transmitted to Ngok.

Ngödrup Terjung = ?

Is the title of a text called དངོས་གྲུབ་གཏེར་འབྱུང་ better translated as "The Treasure Source of Siddhi," "The Treasure That Gives Rise to Siddhi," or a third alternative that i haven't thought of yet?

Any help appreciated ASAP!

Identifying Vajragarbha / Dorjé Nyingpo

Can anyone help a friend and i better identify Vajragarbha (Dorjé Nyingpo)? He's quite early on in the lineage for the Hevajra Tantra, but we're not aware of who he truly is and what he's known for/associated with.

Any assistance from the more learned is much appreciated!

The photo was taken in Boston/Arlington, or the Vajrayogini empowerment, or both? Pretty sure i screencapped that myself, so i attended the webcast. Need to not lose the laptop that I had my empowerment records on, or back them up elsewhere electronically through the web... I would greatly appreciat...

Re: Dharma apps

An app with the ability to be programed by the end user with a specific mantra (whether in Tibetan, English, or other script) that could be set to rotate the appropriate way (clockwise, counter-clockwise, or even stay static) and sped up with usage would be good. This could potentially be a HUGE aid...

Re: Garchen Rinpoche's 2017 Teaching Schedule

I'd say the closest Drikung center "local" to you. If there's a particular lama you're looking to receive from, contacting one of their centers is best. Most active websites have a specific email for questions/requests. The one for Garchen Buddhist Institute in AZ is questions@garchen.net , and the ...

Re: Your favourite hagiographies and biogprahies?

Milarepa's hagiography by Tsang Nyön Heruka is good, and to balance it out you could also read The Biographies of Rechungpa by Peter Alan Roberts, as it gives earlier accounts of Jetsun Mila's life and how Rechungpa figured more prominently in them. The All-Pervading Melodious Sound of Thunder: The ...

Re: Wrathful Deities

Peaceful deities are related to the eight consciousnesses. Wrathful deities are related to the senses organs. Is this one of the reasons why wrathful deities are said to be so much more effective in these degenerate times... because we ordinary beings are so focused on the Devaputra Mara and the ob...

Re: Copying sutras using one's blood

I came across this from the Box Sutra while reading about Avalokiteshvara in a text, A Garland of Jewels by Jamgön Mipham Rinpoche. Emphasis is mine. The Bhagavat Shakyamuni once said, "It is valuable for beings to hold the name of Avalokita. His great awareness mantra of six syllables was sought fo...

What about when a person claims "I received a vision that if you do X, Y, and Z, you will reveal a pure vision treasure"? When things like this are said unprompted and unbidden, do they get examined seriously just in case, or are they simply to be regarded as jokes in poor taste and/or signs of ment...

Re: Wrathful Deities

I've come to use the analogy of healthcare, a common trope in Buddhadharma, to help folks understand over the years. Think of the peaceful activity of certain yidam deities as pure medicine. Sometimes a prescription and swallowing a pill is all that one needs a doctor for, and it works without any f...
