Re: A Garland of Jewels by Jamgon Mipham

Something Jeff Watt wrote when the book came out: What is not stated in this current translation is that this text attributed to and written by Mipham Rinpoche is based on the work of Zhuchen Tsultrim Rinchen (1697-1774) of Dege Gonchen Monastery. Zhuchen was the chief editor of the Dege Tangyur an...

Re: Trekchod/pointing out instructions

Find a good teacher. Here you most probably wont find anyone who can give you that. Try Mingyur Rinpoche, Tsoknyi Rinpoche, Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche and many other masters... they can teach dzogchen. Not people on this forum. You do not need to go to Nepal or Tibet. Many lama...

Re: A long-life prayer for Garchen Guru composed in a state of devotion

If anyone would like to help me translate this into Tibetan, please let me know here or PM me. Khenpo Tenzin Nyima kindly interpreted for me as I recited this to Rinpoche back in 2016, and later helped with a partial written translation, but was unable to finish due to his other duties and the faili...

Re: Reasonable things to tattoo

The amount of money that tattoo cost could have fed a hundred monks for a year Depends on what country you live in... 45 hrs of tattooing cost me the equivalent of about 200USD. I suspect maybe this is an error and you meant 4-5 hrs... unless you got one helluva deal. I had a former thangka artist ...

Re: Tonglen question

Hi, sorry this is kinda off topic-ish, but would it be possible for you to share instructions which you ahve used in your tonglen practice, or a book? I am quite interested in trying tonglen. See the instructions given to Garchen Rinpoche by his root guru, Khenpo Munsel Rinpoche, in this thread: ht...

Re: QUERY: Naljorpa--Information About?

རྣལ་འབྱོར་པ is the Tibetan for "Naljorpa," which is usually translated as "Yogi." A literal translation is "one who is in union ('byor.pa) with the natural state (rnal)." FWIW, the Sanskrit word yogī can be literally translated as "one who is connected/joined with ____," so the 'byor translation in...

Re: Garchen Rinpoche Achi Drolma Empowerment

Thank you for those details, Cone. I know precious little about Sakya, so it's good to know they also practice this deity. Yab-yum deities are traditionally considered one figure, of course, but can you identify Guru Drakpo's consort? I wonder if we should start a trend of mentioning the yum by name...

Re: Happy Saka Dawa 2018, May 29

Just to clarify, Saka Dawa is the whole month, which started somewhere between May 12th and 15th, depending on which Tibetan calendar you go by. Saka Dawa Düchen is the full moon day during this holy month when monasteries will do special pujas and such. So you don't have to wait until the 29th to g...

Re: Queries regarding 5fold Mahamudra ngondro of garchen Rinpoche

You're very welcome. I noticed that these vids don't seem to be published publicly on the DDSC channel, so I thought I'd share them in this thread since it was already here. Incidentally it was this poor excuse for a Dharma practitioner who wouldn't take no for an answer and eventually goaded Khenpo...

Re: Queries regarding 5fold Mahamudra ngondro of garchen Rinpoche

Anyone have the links to Lama Abao's teachings on this text at Drikung Seattle? The videos don't seem to be listed on their YouTube channel... Khenpo Samdup also taught on this text at Drikung Dharma Surya last year. Note that a decent part of Day 2 was dedicated to actually practicing the sadhana. ...

Re: Did the 84 mahasiddhas authorize others to teach?

[...] the implication appears to be that Minapa and Gorakshanath were not tirthikas. Although their guru is Shiva, he was teaching Buddhadharma not Shaivism. Shiva is also considered a worldly protector of the Buddhadharma. In Mipham Rinpoche's Tashi Gyepa prayer, he refers to Shiva by the name Dej...

Re: Did the 84 mahasiddhas authorize others to teach?

Then, of course, there are wannabe cult leaders who, having neither authorization to teach, nor realization, impart a correct understanding of certain Dharma concepts that is later verified by bonafide teachers. So maybe we can learn from even the sketchiest people up to a point, though certainly a ...

Re: Garchen Rinpoche Achi Drolma Empowerment

I think there might be some slight confusion. I am fairly sure that the particular sadhana that the person has is for Pema Lingpa's Guru Dragpo; Rinpoche's empowerment was for Nyang Ral Nyima Özer's Guru Dragpo. Maybe this is still ok. I don't know enough about the differences between the two to co...

Just found this video of my Dharma sis reciting the Dharani after reading your post. Not sure her recitation is pronounced how you were taught (it definitely has a Tibetan influence), but maybe it will help you?

Re: Did the 84 mahasiddhas authorize others to teach?

I don't think anyone could just proclaim to be a paṇḍita though right? I read that was reserved for the Indians, and Tibetans were the lotsawas. :reading: Pandita is a title for someone who has learned the five sciences, it's not an exclusively Indian title, Sakya Pandita was Tibetan. A Lotsawa is ...

Lindama, would you mind shedding some light on what it might be like to work/volunteer at Tara Mandala?
