Take it to the Gohonzon. Report your experiences and your feelings frankly and simply.

Re: Is Avici hell eternal?

It's like how long can you wait? When you're in great pain you don't know if you can stand another minute of it. After a few million years it might well feel like it will never end. We mortals go nuts at far shorter bad experiences.

Re: Is Avici hell eternal?

No condition is eternal. It has to change, and does, eventually. The ten worlds are eternal, so hell is eternal. Enlightenment is eternal so the other nine worlds are eternal as well.

Re: any fast way of burning up karma?

The more effort you put into it the faster you burn up karma.
It says somewhere in the sutras : When you exert 80 billion eons of striving in a single moment, Buddhahood shines forth

Re: Is it worth it to resist your well-deserved bad karma?

If I had the means of resisting, for example if the robber had a knife and I had a gun, I'd stop him. If I had no such means, I might or might not report being robbed. After the fact, when I'm no longer being threatened, I would accept that it was my karma to be robbed, and do my best not to hold il...

Re: Any independent Nichiren Buddhists here?

I rejoice that we all have this relationship with the sutra from past lives.
That's worth more than riches or titles.
No matter doctrinal differences, I think we all agree that the practice works.
Nichirensghost, if you're new, welcome, and thank you for sharing.

Re: cessation of suffering or cessation of suffering cause

No. With correct practice, over time, all unskillful attachments naturally fade away : "Mahali, if form were exclusively pleasurable — followed by pleasure, infused with pleasure and not infused with stress — beings would not be disenchanted with form. But because form is also stressful — followed b...

When a friend is in error and is likely to harm self or others, it is compassionate indeed to give a strict admonishment.

Re: Personal Note to the Nichiren Forum

Sorry to butt in, but the conversation is interesting. I realize Nichiren is a "closed system" in some ways...but I have to say, half the SGI people I've known over the years I know because they also did other Buddhist stuff from time to time, how that would be received in their own communities I h...
