Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

These type of things have been happening in the U.S. for quite a while now. I'm sure that they've looked at other countries and have seen how they've dealt with the same problem. However I've come to the conclusion that tightening up firearm laws in the U.S. is flogging a dead horse. It's their prob...

Do you know Kim if the statue is staying in Bendigo permanently or if it's still on a tour. The article says that so far it has been to 135 cities.

Re: Should a mother who is emotionally neglectful and indifferent be honored on Mother's day?

Most families have a few problems. I come from a family where drug addiction and alcoholism as well as their secondary problems of domestic violence and jail were seen as the norm. To break this cycle I had to realize that the only person whose behavior I could change was mine. My advice is to honou...

Re: Of Concentration Camps and Prisons - Split from "Korean War Over?"

Without wanting to diminish the very fair criticisms of the US penal system, it is not the same as a North Korean concentration camp. https://www.ibanet.org/Article/NewDetail.aspx?ArticleUid=8ae0f29d-4283-4151-a573-a66b2c1ab480 During a day-long hearing held in Washington, DC in 2016, Chief Judge N...

Re: Korean War Over?

:good: Concentration camps aren't really the same as prisons. You can argue about the injustices and disparity in US prison populations, but that still doesn't make them "concentration camps." I think most Nazi concentration camp victims and other political prisoners would feel insulted to compare t...

Depends on who won.

Were they wearing white hats, or black hats?
The winners always wear white hats, as it's the winners that get to write the history.
In my opinion the end of any war is a good thing.

I can't help you but the one on the left I've definitely seen, the other I'm not really sure if I've ever seen it before.

Re: US and Allies Launch Strikes on Syria

1. You are white, well good for you. I am not white enough for your type of white. I'm confused, in your last post you were white, but now you're unsure if you're white? 2. Rascism is prejudice, discrimination or antagonistic towards a person or people based upon their skin colour and/or nationalit...

Re: US and Allies Launch Strikes on Syria

Greg, you often sound very rascist and bigoted towards white people in your posts. I would have thought that rascism and bigotry would be against the forum rules regardless of what colour or country it is aimed towards 1. I am white, well... according to Anglo-Saxon-Irish types I am not exactly whi...

Re: Collective karma

At the moment in South Africa there's political parties calling for the killing of white people. Considering white South Africa's previous treatment of black people couldn't this be a case of collective karma ripening.

Re: US and Allies Launch Strikes on Syria

Sorry to sound pessimistic but there's been a lot of wars going on in lots of places for a lot of years. It seems to me that prayer doesn't work, many other people have tried that approach. Unfortunately I'm not smart enough to offer an alternative.

Re: is doing spell is ok in Buddhism?

Everyone needs a bit of luck in their life, but the fact of the matter is, the harder you work the luckier you get.
I know this from my own experience and as a kid hanging around my father who trained boxers and greyhounds.

Re: Intimate relationships -the "other", no self, and practice

I am a married man with 4 kids, for me buddhism is all about living in the world and dealing with all of my different relationships, whether it be husband/wife, father/child or employee/employer. To me the story of the old woman and the monk means that he should have had a good time and enjoyed hims...

Re: What is the Typical Asian Diet?

I've spent quite a bit of time in the Philippines. It's mostly fish and rice or chicken and rice. Pork is eaten on special occasions as well as goat, very occasionally water buffalo but usually the people that own the water buffalo won't consume them as after working on the farm for many years they ...

Some remote islands in the Philippines are powered by solar and wind. Tidal power is another source of energy that hasn't been looked into enough yet.

Re: Merit = good karma ?

Is so-called ‘merit’ the same as so-called ‘good karma’? Accumulating good merit is a way to get good karma. Accumulating merit is a way to get good action? What does that even mean? I don't recall posting that accumulating merit is a way to get good action. I wrote that accumulating merit is a way...

Not all oil is toxic. White oil and linseed oil are two that come to mind. But if I sat here and thought about it I'm sure that I'd come up with a list as long as my arm.
