Re: Buddhism, Driving, and Vehicular Vengeance

I spend a lot of time driving on the road and nearly every job I've had in my life involved driving. Yes, people do some silly things, I can almost count on at least one instance a day.
I just let it go, what am I going to do about it anyway.

Re: Which of the following activities do you consider sexual misconduct?

I'm very surprised that only 25% of the respondents considered rape and paedophilia (child abuse) to be sexual misconduct.
Especially considering that in most Western countries they were the only 2 sexual activities on the list that are also crimes

I do silent recitations while exercising. However it's done as an auxiliary practice and not my main practice.

In regards to question 4. My wife is a practising catholic and I follow buddhism. We've had no problems. Our small alter at home contains a few catholic statues (virgin mary, the little king, St peter etc) there is also a buddha and kuan yin statues. Occasionally my wife will read one of my buddhist...

Re: Japanese Pure Land and Five Precepts

In pureland Buddhism we aspire to be reborn in the pureland. Whether we keep the precepts or not doesn't matter. I choose to try my best to keep the precepts because it makes my life in this world more manageable. But it's got no bearing on whether I'll be born in the pureland or not. That has alrea...

Re: Would Mahayana Buddhist ethics be too extreme?

The precepts and ethics are a wonderful way to live your life.
However we all live in samsara and from time to time you're going to have to box on with the best of them.
Sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do.

I work as a labourer in the water and sewerage section of a local council. It's not a bad gig. Sick leave, holidays, superannuation.

Putting a dog down, or any other animal for that matter is without doubt the worst part of owning an animal.
Unfortunately it is part of being a responsible animal owner.
Good luck and best wishes.

In some ways philosophy and religion go hand in hand.
For me it doesn't matter much, as long as it helps me.

A philosophy in that it can be
grasped intellectually
And a spiritual path in that it can be
experienced intuitively.
That's a great answer.

I will be all alone again this Christmas. You with families are the lucky ones. Imagine having nothing and no one while others prepare their feasts and open gifts. Sorry to hear that hope you'll be OK 🫠 I'm one of the lucky ones with a family. Tomorrow we'll all be going to my oldest sons house. Ev...

Re: The Great Debate on Quitting Smoking

I haven't had a smoke in 3 years using nicotine pouches. While admittedly still addicted to nicotine at least I'm giving my lungs a break. I was heavily addicted smoker. Started at 8 years old and by age 15 was smoking a packet a day. When I stopped at 55 I was smoking 75gms of RYO tobacco a week. H...

For what it's worth my wife is from the Philippines. I've seen buddhist monks in Cebu city. I don't know where their temple is and just because I saw them in Cebu doesn't necessarily mean that they're from Cebu.

I'm approaching 59 years old and have been a union member since I started working at 15. In Australia the unions have lost their teeth, but I'd still rather be a member than not be a member.
