Re: Dharma kitty

Orange males have in my experience always been delightful ... with humans! Our orange guy is, well let's say, a bit overenthusiastic with other cats. ;-)

We have an orange cat (female, stray) that adopted us recently. She is the unfriendliest cat I have ever seen. She only lets you feed her, if you try and stroke her she sticks the nails in straight away.
I meant male orange cats are friendly. Never knew a lady orange ...

Re: Dharma kitty

Gorgeous. Long tail! Orange cats are soooooo friendly and calm (with humans). Our guy looks very similar.

May you enjoy each other. :-)

Re: Alan Wallace DZ related Q&A

For those of you who are not familiar with Alan, I'm fresh off (well, actually, still on) his recent Meditation in Dzogchen online course, in which there are many hours of video teachings from him. He is extraordinarily lucid, imo, sharp as a knife. And has attitude fer sure! A wicked sense of humor...

If you enter into Dzogchen teachings in a real sense, you wont be interested in other teachings at all.
But there are SO MANY beautiful flowers to smell ... !

Re: nagarjuna basics?

Very quick and dirty:

"Things are not what they appear to be: nor are they otherwise." — Buddha

I second the Alex Trisoglio recommendation. The 8 lessons (videos and written transcripts) are an excellent introduction to the view of the Middle Way.

Re: enlightment in one life

I can appreciate that. We're all lazy, undedicated and lacking compassion at least some (or most) of the time. I had some of those same doubts but remembering that although these are evidently 'pathy' paths, the actual nature of the path and result is still empty and an illusory display, including ...

Re: enlightment in one life

If you follow other paths, you don't make progress in Dzogchen, so what do you think? Kevin Hi Kevin. :-) I understand the rationale behind staying on one path until you've gone all the way ... but surely that's not the only method to get there. I guess I'm a multipather? (For better or worse!) :qu...

Re: enlightment in one life

Why not just seal the deal and invite yourself fully if its possible? I want to say "I'm not a joiner ... more of a repeat visitor, like an uncle who suddenly appears and is 100% there, then just as suddenly vanishes and is 100% gone." But of course that's just a conceptual underpinning I sometimes...

Re: enlightment in one life

So what's the success rate like, in percentages? For instance, how many have become enlightened by following Namkhai Norbu? Everyone who follows Dzogchen teachings will attain buddhahood, either in this life, the bardo, or the very next lifetime. As Paṇḍita Vimalamitra says: Thus, there is not a si...

Re: The Six Lamps

Since I know you're a student of ChNN: ChNN does not want his students to read these things before they receive it. He's very clear on that. Baby question: What does it mean "to receive it" in this context? That the teacher gives the okay to the student to read something? Or that the teacher perfor...

Re: The Six Lamps

Can I just read this? Generally speaking, how do Bön teachers feel about people reading texts such as this? Are there any 'requirements' as such, or should one just use their judgment? Since I know you're a student of ChNN: ChNN does not want his students to read these things before they receive it...

the electorate had a temporary madness and now deeply regrets it. Or the electorate has tipped over into enduring madness ... and has no clue that's what's happening, because, whoopee: It's reality TV! I honestly think that if the US went to war with North Korea and hundreds of thousands of people ...

Don't feed ducks bread! It's not healthy for them. Whole or cracked corn is better. I speak from experience: http://api.ning.com/files/C*P8XcSSeqc3xyKSR8qIbVRkA5l7mKbj5N020BLnee1RMfdZ9enYungXxo54mVsRT-R1UiD6J7NJQUwUmG4fh-EgNzg1o7Ry/image1_edited.jpg?width=600&height=450&format=jpg

He told me he once gave a talk at a Buddhist conference about the danger of repressed anger in Buddhism and he met with lots of resistance from Buddhist practitioners. On the one hand I get it ... Buddhism has its own prescriptions for how to deal with anger and they seemed to have worked quite well...

My little town with no Dharma centers or anything just had a screening of the documentary "Walk with Me" at the local movie theater. Quite a nice film, I really enjoyed it.
"Fire Walk with Me" is more my kind of thing.
