Re: popularity of self initiation in the various lineages

Many paths to the mountaintop for the ceaseless variety of beings :namaste: I was just curious if the ritual was something universal. I was quite surprised at how many people at the centre here were involved in the Yamantaka self-initiation, because it is a quite a complex and demanding ritual with...

Re: popularity of self initiation in the various lineages

But ther is no need to be sad - from other POV, in HYT you will never find Dzogchen, contrary to Inner tantras where it is always, as I know

Re: popularity of self initiation in the various lineages

I don't know so much about self-empowerment and so can't tell you if there is a difference between HYT and Mahayoga self-empowerment. In general I think there is quite a lot of differences between HYT and Mahayoga/Anuyoga/Atiyoga. /magnus Yes. So I think in Inner Tantras there is not this "self-ini...

Re: popularity of self initiation in the various lineages

I don't know anything about HYT I been practicing in the Chokling Tersar tradition for a long time now. Self-empowerment is a part of the the Dzogchen cycle I practice. I am not sure how important it is and what I use when doing tsog, mending and purification is just a few lines in the text, but it...

Re: popularity of self initiation in the various lineages

Excuse me for more questions: training in the development and completion stages is done through sadhana practices such as Rigdzin Dupa Is Rigdzin Dupa a sadhana of anuyoga? self-empowerment is a practice just like tsog Is it for example for HYT not far more than as ordinary tsog? to practice the Mah...

Re: popularity of self initiation in the various lineages

"It has been said that the Longchen Nyingtig marks a critical point in the merging of the Great Perfection with the rituals of mahayoga, the assumption being that from the fourteenth century onward, Great Perfection cycles came to incorporate more and more mahayoga material, and that this becomes e...

Re: popularity of self initiation in the various lineages

I know about a number of Nyingthig cycles and they all have Maha and Anu in them. /magnus Is Shitro initation there a Mahayoga? Take we for example Longchen Nyinthig. Where is there Mahayoga? Yes, the Shitro mandala is from the most important Mahayoga Tantra, the Guhyagharbha Tantra. One Dzogchen c...

Re: popularity of self initiation in the various lineages

bdag 'jug is a ritual added to the sadhana Perhaps you mean for a sadhana from Anuyoga which is associated with Nyinthig sometimes, for example for the purpose of tsalung and so on? Exactly, now you got it. /magnus and what when there was not a sadhana from Anuyoga in one's complete practic...

Re: popularity of self initiation in the various lineages

You probably don't know what a self-initiation is Mariusz and for this reason you object. I'm very familiar with self-initation from my prior knowledge of Gelug HYT, but I've never met this kind in Nyinthig so far. However HYT it is not strictly the same as Mahayoga as I know, so even here can be a...

Re: popularity of self initiation in the various lineages

contained complete teachings on Mahayoga, Anuyoga and Atiyoga :namaste: Yes, but i asked only considering Anuyoga or Atiyoga alone, not considering anything containing Mahayoga. Can you provide tibetan term "self-initiation" used for Dzogchen, which is without Mahayoga, as for example from the Nyin...

Re: popularity of self initiation in the various lineages

Where I come from, doing a ritual like this related to a sadhana is regarded as exclusively an Mahayoga thing. Anuyoga and Atiyoga practitioners empower themselves all the time via different methods. Did you mean the methods to "get" Rigpa directly or other specific? for example there are some "cut...

Re: popularity of self initiation in the various lineages

Including the below answers for Nyingma, such puja like "shower of blessing", or daily vajrasattva 100 sylables mantra, or protectors practice with serkyem, also there is some kind of short special essence initation that refresh all samayas and so on. Take a axample: HE Gangtang Tulku do it before e...

World Peace Drubchen of Vajrakilaya

In summer 2013 there will be the World Peace Drubchen of Vajrakilaya in BLYE, France, with the monks from Gangteng Monastery, Bhutan, and of course HE IX Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche (in the picture below). I don't know yet the details but it is planned to be ~ 2 weeks of events, initiations and ceremoni...

Re: Tradition of Oracles in Gelug

I was going to use the Asanga story as an example. Come to think of it, any of the Mahasiddhas who discovered Tantras-Luipa, etc.- would be much the same. it is particularly discused when Umapa with Yamantaka: http://www.dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?f=102&t=5770&hilit=yamantaka&start=90" onclick="...

Re: Tradition of Oracles in Gelug

I checked with Geshe Sonam at breakfast about the Lama Umapa stories in Je Rinpoche's biography and he told me Umapa was not functioning as a Kuten (medium) and nothing he has ever read has characterized his relationship with Manjushri as being like that. I realize this is the opinion of one Geshe ...
