Re: Ro-Lang

Aren't these the ones that you stop by building low doorways, but also break the back of corpses to prevent them from spontaneously arising?

Re: Practicing dharma as a pair

I have experiences similar to Magnus. My practice was not working well in my previous relationships with spiritually inclined girlfriends. My current non-Buddhist wife is much more supportive – and I more focused and less confused in my practice. We've been together for 15 years.

Re: Very sad news: Letter to Sogyal Rinpoche / Abuse allegations

The biggest red flag, I think, is lifestyle. Aside from the number of centers and students, how is the teacher living? Is she or he modest in lifestyle? Do they have more than one home? More than one car? If they do it could be ok, but it's a huge red flag, watch out! The other thing that always st...

Re: 3 year retreat vs Daily life practice

Tara Mandala's Gateway Program is a serious attempt at repacking a 3-year retreat into a 10-year format, at 2 hours per day. It won't make you a graduate of a 3-year retreat but you will have gone through the same program. Originally, it was seven years long but Tulku Sang-Ngag – who leads the later...

Re: The Shedra of Longchen Rabjam

Compared to most other online Dharma study programs, this Shedra is definitely more in-depth. For instance, Year 1 contains two main courses. One of which is this: Rdzogs pa chen po sems nyid ngal gso las rgyu mtshan nyid theg pa'i skor Kun mkhyen Klong chen rab 'byams de'i 'grel pa Shing rta rnam d...

. But then again, I am a rookie. Seems like a very long time you called yourself that. Almost fifteen years. I say it for three reasons in this context: 1. It is my honest feeling/self-assessment, especially here where there is such vast knowledge and experience. 2. I am humbly aware of the...

My conclusion is that he is legit, and my contact with him has not given me reason to think otherwise – on the contrary. Seems quite precious, if you are interested in Yamantaka. But then again, I am a rookie. "One of the first western Buddhist monks in the Tibetan tradition of Mahayana Buddhism, Jh...

Does anyone know of any source of Tibetan letters in high resolution (for letterhead/A4 printing purposes)?

Re: Empirically validating Phowa

According to Phowa teachers and practitioners a hole in the head is one of the signs that the transfer of consciousness (or the ability to transfer consciousness) has been achieved. Right? Now according to, let's say, Homa practitioners the presence of smoke is a sign that the offerings have reache...

Re: Empirically validating Phowa

Yes, it would blow everyone's mind if someone was able to magically make a hole in their head, on the spot. But it still wouldn't in any prove it had to do with phowa , it would just prove someone can make a hole in their head on command. ^^This^^ This is the problem with the overwhelming majority ...

Re: Empirically validating Phowa

So it sounds like we agree then, that essentially anything close to "consciousness" would be impossible to show. Yes, it would blow everyone's mind if someone was able to magically make a hole in their head, on the spot. But it still wouldn't in any prove it had to do with phowa , it would just pro...

Re: Empirically validating Phowa

I did not mean that Phowa needs validation via scientific method, only that it could be potentially valuable to do so... ... When I write "validate" I mean it in the sense it is sometimes used in the scientific discourse, i.e. "confirmed" or "established", within that epistemology. Fair enough, I a...

Re: Empirically validating Phowa

Let's say you had infinite resources: So, they see a big ol' hole in someone's head. In fact, let's even say they saw clearly that something invisible to the human eye shot through a hole in someone's head, moving in the upward direction: How would they prove this was associated with phowa? A pilot...
