Re: Human, you are not necessary.

Entertainment will get cheaper and more effective at control. Once we shift more into the virtual world, providing virtual goodies and benefits will not cost the elites anything at all. For First Worlders? Maybe. And even then it will only be for a certain percentage of the population. In terms of ...

Poor leopard...
Supposedly they have no plans to track down and kill the leopard, which is surprising but good
I was thinking more about the negative consequences accrued from killing a member of the ordained Sangha.

Re: Human, you are not necessary.

If only we could figure this out. We are on the verge of unlimited leisure time for humanity. Sure, because the bosses replacing the workers with the robot will continue to pay the workers so they can lounge around in the Bahamas... Leisure is a privilege purchased by money. Unemployment =/= leisur...

Re: Should we be generous to the ungrateful?

“Mañjuśrī, when childish ordinary beings practice generosity, they do it with disrespect toward miserly sentient beings. Due to their disrespect, those who practice giving get angry and give rise to the fault of resentfulness. The faults of anger and resentfulness plunge them into the hell realms. ...

Might want to try out www.dhammawheel.com
Ummmmmm... Somehow I don't think you will be able to "discuss Theravada teachings from the perspective of Mahayana/Vajrayana" at DWT.

My question to you all: Is offering alcohol as a gift to ones ngakpa lama appropriate and does it have a specific meaning/significance or is it inauspicious or inappropriate?
Every time I go see my ngakapa lama I bring him some local booze. He loves it.

Hello can we discuss Theravada teachings from the perspective of a Mahayana/Vajrayana practitioner? Thanks.
Of course. But do consider that since this is a Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism forum, this view will be considered definitive.

It's going to be a while before he dies, so why not practice your ass off and go ask him personally?

Also, in terms of LOTR's terma in particular, since you feel strongly about their continuity, maybe you're the lineage holder. You just need to ramp up your game a bit.
A bit???!!!

Re: New terma and their continuation outside of a lineage.

I don't understand the title. There is no continuation without a lineage. But by received empowerments and teachings you are already part of the lineage. Of course the lineage will die with the last generation if there is no one qualified in that generation after the originator has passed. For exam...

That is a different problem, one the community in the west will in time resolve. We already know that in China there is a Khenpo appointed to continue CHNN's lineage there.

Re: empowerment for Dudjom Tersar Ngondro

Unfortunately, I cannot be responsible for my empowerment. No, but you are responsible for what you do with what you have received. Sure, but I am not just talking about me, I am also talking about people who have/will come to the practices after the teacher's parinirvana, they are going to need em...
