Re: The bardo and akanistha

Greg: the four or six bardos is a doctrine exclusive to Dzogchen Man ngag sde (that is, it is not found in sems sde or klong sde, or anu or mahāyoga). In the new schools, there is only one bardo. Fair enough. The OP did not post in a specific tradition's sub-forum so... I was also referring to the ...

Re: The bardo and akanistha

Someone said that the Bardo is just another name for akanistha? is this true? i always thought that the Bardo was the transmigrassion realm and that akanistha was another different heavenly realm. Your understanding is largely correct. In reality there is not one bardo state but four or six states....

Dear Mila,

There is no such thing as a pure Buddhist, if we were pure we would be Arhats and Buddhas, not Buddhists.

So, no use beating up on yourself. Just try to do your best. One step at a time.

Re: How do you know you're not just making karma worse??

No, basically. If your karma is to be born a wealthy family, you will never be able to take rebirth in the womb of a poor mother. Why? Just as a fruit tree cannot flourish in poor soil, but various kinds of other plants can easily grow, a poor mother lacks the conditions to support the karmic cause...

Re: How do you know you're not just making karma worse??

Karma is the driving force behind where one is born in samsara. Yup, that is past karma. In the meantime though one is busy accruing vipaka with their current actions too. However, karma does not form ideologies and philosophies. If you believe this, then you will be forced accept the consequence o...

Re: How do you know you're not just making karma worse??

Karma supersedes all political, social, and economic theories, rendering them all pretty meaningless, in fact. I think you will find that it is karma that is the driving force behind social systems and karma which forms ideologies and philosophies. ;) I would say it is karma that renders them meani...

Re: DNA TESTS

Since in the endless round of birth, death and rebirth all sentient beings have been my mother at some point in time, I guess that means I am directly related to all the sentient beings, on all of the six planes of existence.

To me it seems to reconcile the points made in this thread. A Summary of Shared and Unshared Abodes there are no external objects to function as observed conditions aside from consciousness, nor are the external environment or other seemingly shared appearances anything more than the objective aspe...

Re: How do you know you're not just making karma worse??

I mean you go in every moment of your day, you PRACTICE a ton every way you know how, formally informally and everything in between, and then things get thicker, denser, more demons rise from the belly, and you go... Hey is all this practice actually gonna do someone any good besides me thinking it...

Re: LARGE BRONZE OFFERING THINGY

The saddest part is that 52 idiots gave their hard earned cash... My teacher always gave money to the people on the streets....you know, the ones holding up cardboard signs, asking for donations....i told him they'll just spend it on alcohol...he said something to the effect : It's their happiness....

Isn't it just a matter of Buddhas manifesting in the form most suitable for the person, time and place?
There is no conversion necessary.
I am not sure this is the case with earthly deities since they are just (ignorant) sentient beings like you and me.

Re: US and Allies Launch Strikes on Syria

Greg, the Greek economy stalled out in the 80's. You have to be careful of economic statistics when it comes to Greece, for two reasons: 1. The Greek (government) statistical service which provides the economic data was caught lying, a number of times. 2. A large section of the Greek economy works ...

Re: Nechung Kuten Recognizes Yeye Omileye

I'm not trying to make a name as a hijacker, so pardon this slight deviation from the thread's current course, but what about Greek deities? They were already integrated (we might even say "converted") in ancient Buddhist Gandhara. No hijacking here, just curious. Honest. And Ancient Greek religion...

Re: US and Allies Launch Strikes on Syria

Yes, but it will just get worse under a socialist government. No. And then you would end up exactly like Venezuela, which has centrally controlled pricing. We used to have centrally controlled pricing in Greece during the 80's, and it worked just fine. Actually, the 80's were a peak period for Gree...

Re: US and Allies Launch Strikes on Syria

Sure, if you want the UK to wind up like Venezuela, go for it. Oh wait, you live in Greece, you are already well on the way. Yes, well... If you think Greece ended up in it's current mess because of socialist policies you are sadly mistaken. It wasn't the socialist policies, it was because of corru...

A nobody ofcourse. I don't own a single thing that identifies me as a buddhist. Secret yogi indeed.
Well, you just identified yourself as a somebody: as a secret yogi.

How do you know you're not just making things worse thinking you're making things better (good intentions and all that jazz)??? Well, the safest path is the Hinayana approach, that's for sure. You can always temporarily revert to it if you are unsure of your motivation. In the meantime accumulating...

Of course you can. Through your present actions to set up the conditions for your future rebirths and through purification practices to deal with some of the outcomes of your past lives.

But you have to work your ass off.
