Re: LARGE BRONZE OFFERING THINGY

The saddest part is that 52 idiots gave their hard earned cash... My teacher always gave money to the people on the streets....you know, the ones holding up cardboard signs, asking for donations....i told him they'll just spend it on alcohol...he said something to the effect : It's their happiness....

Isn't it just a matter of Buddhas manifesting in the form most suitable for the person, time and place?
There is no conversion necessary.
I am not sure this is the case with earthly deities since they are just (ignorant) sentient beings like you and me.

Re: US and Allies Launch Strikes on Syria

Greg, the Greek economy stalled out in the 80's. You have to be careful of economic statistics when it comes to Greece, for two reasons: 1. The Greek (government) statistical service which provides the economic data was caught lying, a number of times. 2. A large section of the Greek economy works ...

Re: Nechung Kuten Recognizes Yeye Omileye

I'm not trying to make a name as a hijacker, so pardon this slight deviation from the thread's current course, but what about Greek deities? They were already integrated (we might even say "converted") in ancient Buddhist Gandhara. No hijacking here, just curious. Honest. And Ancient Greek religion...

Re: US and Allies Launch Strikes on Syria

Yes, but it will just get worse under a socialist government. No. And then you would end up exactly like Venezuela, which has centrally controlled pricing. We used to have centrally controlled pricing in Greece during the 80's, and it worked just fine. Actually, the 80's were a peak period for Gree...

Re: US and Allies Launch Strikes on Syria

Sure, if you want the UK to wind up like Venezuela, go for it. Oh wait, you live in Greece, you are already well on the way. Yes, well... If you think Greece ended up in it's current mess because of socialist policies you are sadly mistaken. It wasn't the socialist policies, it was because of corru...

A nobody ofcourse. I don't own a single thing that identifies me as a buddhist. Secret yogi indeed.
Well, you just identified yourself as a somebody: as a secret yogi.

Re: How do you know you're not just making karma worse??

How do you know you're not just making things worse thinking you're making things better (good intentions and all that jazz)??? Well, the safest path is the Hinayana approach, that's for sure. You can always temporarily revert to it if you are unsure of your motivation. In the meantime accumulating...

Re: Can we write our next lives now?

Of course you can. Through your present actions to set up the conditions for your future rebirths and through purification practices to deal with some of the outcomes of your past lives.

But you have to work your ass off.

But wouldn't that be a pity, spending $5k on a couple of candle-holders? When you could just add $1k more and become recognized as a living female budha? https://www.generosity.com/faith-religion-fundraising/help-osun-to-next-stage-as-female-water-buddha Sorry, KL, couldn't resist... :jumping: The ...

Re: US and Allies Launch Strikes on Syria

Meanwhile in Newnan, in The Land of the Free, heavily armed police (yes, one would be excused if they thought they were military personnel or Black Water mercenaries) point guns at unarmed peaceful (anti-Nazi) protesters.

Re: Collective karma

So you believe a Buddha's mind is conditioned and thus cannot see things for what they are. You believe that a Buddha is afflicted by ignorance. A buddha's mind stream is conditioned and relative; it is however free of affliction and endowed with omniscience. Doesn't conditioning imply/require igno...

Re: Collective karma

How do you know? Is that an information inherent in the perceived object, or is it rather an understanding arrived at by inference? Inference. I can imagine that a human society that does not have a mathematical or numerical system will still know that two items are twice as many as one item. But n...

Mathematical truths mean nothing to those who know nothing about mathematics, i.e. they do not exist for them. If you propose that mathematics is real, independent of minds, that might be so, but they still do not exist for those without relevant knowledge. I am not talking about mathematical truth...

PS I wonder what is happening in Afrin, don't see much of that on the news, do you?

And I don't see anybody sending Tomahawk missiles to take out the Israeli snipers killing unarmed Palestinian protectors on a daily basis. Weird that.

Re: US and Allies Launch Strikes on Syria

In closing, and hopefully to pull the thread back on track: I actually don't doubt that Assad's forces used chemical weapons in Douma, what I doubt is the stated motivation of "the allies" for bombing Syria. This is what I severely doubt.

All your "fact" digging does is try and poison the well further. Are any of the facts reported by the website I posted false? Re: US and Allies Launch Strikes on Syria

We have, as a world, agreed that guns are "legal" weapons of military violence. We have, as a world, agreed that chemical weapons are not legal weapons of military violence. It is solely for this reason this discussion is important. Which just goes to show how arbitrary legality is. Mind you, in th...
